Yup, great loss.

Like far too many, died far too young.

Rest In Peace THE number seven.

The man was a legend and is sorely missed.

I've read about and heard many of his antics especially when he involved Hunt and Stavros. There will never be anything like them again.

Which is a shame as it was the characters in the sport that made it all the more exciting and interesting.

A legend in his own lifetime.....and the guy who made motorcycle racing interesting and exciting for the masses...A true legend.

I was fortunate to see him at Donington in his last 'proper' race on a Walmsley Manx......then had this done by Peter Hearsey which is a montage of Barry at Donington.....3ft x 2ft oil painting.

I met him a few times and shared a couple of drinks and cigarettes. He was just a nice friendly man, no attitude at all, he tret everyone like a friend which must have been tiring at times.

I even got a telegram from him when I was in hospital for 6 months.

Wow I was thinking it seemed like longer ago - this thread is from 2012! Still, 2003 was when he passed and it seems, weirdly, like ages ago and only yesterday. We were lucky to have him in Australia when GP racing started appearing on the telly. A great man.

Bravery, charisma and talent. Other than Rossi, hard to think of a rider that has all 3 today. And Sheene probably beats Rossi for bravery. I bet he had a lot more vag too smile.
