After passing my DAS last week I bought my first bike on Sunday...

Bright yellow Suzuki SV 650 S. Should pick it up on Wednesday evening - can't wait. Any recommendations for insurance? Best so far seems to be Bennetts, 150 quid TPF&T and 400 fully comp - surprising little seeing as you can measure the time I have had my licence in hours!!!!!

I use Carole Nash for all my bikes , but they're not the cheapest (500ukp FC, 4yrs ncb, for two Tigers and a Blackbird) but they do give 12 months green card and roadside recovery and the like....

So how's the bike Twit?

Bit different when you haven't got someone following you everywhere?

Enjoy, take it easy and learn to ride now.

Ha ha... Very different!

I really enjoyed the trip back home last night though I was slightly in awe of the bike... Seemed much quicker and more powerful than anything else I have riden!! Also the V twin has massive engine braking which takes a while to get used to, though it sounds very cool!!

Had one wobble moment when I let the clutch go to quickly and I was not at all relaxed but both will come with time. I'm planning a couple of long quiet rides this weekend together with a couple of empty carparks to practice slow control!!! That is as long as the flippin storms stop!!!!!

Come to Cornwall - the sun is out.

Beaches were full yesterday and since Saturday, barring a few odd showers it's been dry and great for biking! (& I've been in the office working).

Nice to see you are enjoying it though.

I bought my girlfriend an SV 650S last year as her first bike. What a good choise I've riden it a couple of times and it is so friendly.

Good luck with your riding. Stay safe and always wear the proper clothing.

Its amazing isnt it, going from a training bike (mine was a GS500) to a bike with a proper engine!

Mine to was a GS 500...

It now feels like a 125 by comparison! In fact I was talking to myself for just about the whole journey back and most of that was me not believing what I was riding! Oh, and also feeling a bit tight in new, non-broken in leathers!!!!

Can't wait til tomorrow, alarm set for 6.30 and aiming to be on some empty roads by 7. I'm certainly not going to go mad but I need to ride for some distance!!!!

Congratulations!

Enjoy and take it easy.

You don't have to keep up with the faster riders, just take your time.

Welcome to a whole new world

A mate of mine has a GS500 but has been riding for 8 years and used to have a GSXR, so he's got a fair idea of what he's doing - hes bloody quick through the corners, far faster than me, but my Bandit just obliterated him on the straights - I was winding him by braking for the roundabouts, thereby slowing him down, and then leaving him for dead on the straights

Hi Twit,
good choice of bike. I've had mine about 5 months now and i'm very happy with it. I love the sound of the v-twin too, I've found it a very novice friendly bike to ride as it steers intuitively, as you say though the engine braking does take a bit of getting used to.

I insured mine through Bennetts, they were by far the cheapest for me at £240.

WOAH! If you want cheap insurance, try Choice Quote.

I'm only 22 and I drive a Buell XB9R Firebolt and I pay just £300 TPFT. I do have 4 years no claims bonus but that's still dirt cheap considering my age.

Good luck!
