Best bike to buy for Weekend runs in Countryside??

Have about £1200 to spend on a bike for just running around at the weekends(Hour or two blasts in the country lanes)And was thinking about a Suzuki RGV 250
Would this be a viable bike for weekend blasts/runs at that sort of money???

my mate just sold his RGV250 he had it for 2 years and it was in mint condition.

HE never had a problem with it and it was suprisingly fast but he did have to thrash its tits off everywhere just to stay as a dot in my mirror

He seemed to enjoy it. I tried to ride it once and got streight off it and gave him it back. Couldnt get on with it for some reason but Im just rubbish so it might just be me.
