I have realised after last night that I am the worst person in the world at going around corners!!!

After a visit to The Ace cafe last night for some grub and cup of tea, on the way home went via the Park Royal roundabout to watch whats going on.I was amazed at how lower some of these guys could get the bike lent over to the point that the pegs where sparking!

I have got back on a bike after a 10 year break and can not even get to half the lean angle that every one else was getting on my Cbr600rr. Whats even more annoying is my friend on his BMW can chuck it in to any corner fast then me.

So I put it to you all how can I get around these corners quicker??

Sign up for CSS (www.superbikeschool.co.uk) and read TOTW2 (Twist of the Wrist 2).

That Park Royal roundabout now has CCTV....

99... there you go, I've dialled the first two for you hehe

Seriously though OP, you're not going to get any faster by asking people on the internet how to!!

If you really do want to learn to corner 'faster' then get yourself some proper tuition on track with someone like CSS. How much is transferrable to the road is always debatable, but it will help you explore the limits safely.

Just commit yourself a bit more, the bike is designed to lean over.
The CBR will lean and lean without letting go*.
Why don't you find a good big roundabout and go around it a few dozen times?
When I had a Bandit, I did this and found it useful, just make sure there are no cards around,
and the wash out area (basically anywhere you might crash) isn't full of stuff that will hurt you.

  • assuming high quality tyres, which you have warmed up and removed the gunk covering the chicken strips.

Arse a little bit off the side of the seat in the direction your about to turn, bit of counter steer, make sure your on the gas as you start the corner (not slowing into the corner), head up and looking where your going to go, tip toes on the pegs, jobs a good un smile Please correct me if I'm wrong by the way, I'm still quite new but it works well for me!

I don't have to worry about the CCTV as I wobble around it!!

Naked is not a good look for me trust me!!!

Did try the roundabout technique but I chickened out as I just thought i would fall off at 30mph!!!

Think the only way is to MTFU and maybe do a track session with tuition.

If I did CSS is it on their bikes or my own?

Do this. But I've been told going naked with pink fluffy slippers on makes you even faster.

Get on a novice trackday and try to relax & be smooth, then the confidence & speed will come.

Number 1 thing is get more miles on the bike if you're new back to bikes.

Certainly don't try to copy/emulate faster mates on the road.

Why 2 and not the first one? I think I have both kicking round somewhere, though I never got round to reading them. Have done CSS 1 & 2 though both are utterly brilliant. I even use the lessons they taught me to be quicker round corners in my car!

2 is more applicable to road riding and closer to the modern teachings at the school, 1 is more about racing techniques and is harder going.

You can brake going into the corner, just power on from apex out.

This is of course true, but is trickier than being on the gas all the way through.

IMHO you don't need to worry about the arse off bit for on the road - otherwise sound advice.

For me I've found a wide line into the corner, and stay away from the brakes. If you feel you're going too fast for the corner do any braking in a straight line. I've found that when trying to corner smoothly brakes really are my worst enemy. LoonR1 on here told me to ride a road then decided on a reasonable speed and keep to that speed the whole way, only rolling on and off where necessary, no brakes just commit to the corners and it all starts to makes sense.

Haven't seen 1 myself, but 2 was brilliant. Loved the no BS bike and that they proved everything. Eye opening.

Slow down & lean in more, you'll be amazed how far the bike falls into the bend hehe
