Doesn't need the Triumph dealer to do it, it's a fork seal. Do you have a decent local indie?

I don't know of anyone I would trust really! The main dealers have always given me better service than local indies but I'm always willing to listen to other places.

as far as cost, no idea, although I'm sure they'd stretch it to 2 hours labour...

the one on my 9 was going and the garage I used (not a dealer or anything other than a garage) was going to charge £100 plus parts, also said, that they would sand the stanchion and it would be dull. As such I didn't use them. But guess it's a figure for you to halve.

For both legs ?

My Suzuki dealer charges £70 a leg, that includes an OE seal and fork oil etc.

It is not a particularly difficult job to do if you a good set of tools, and something to lift the front of the bike up.

I think £150 is reasonable. Its not a quick or easy job, and you need certain tools. You have to be realistic, what could you get done on a car for £150?? Not much...

and yes, btw, I have done my own in the past.

Thanks guys, so I should be looking between £70-£150 really then? It's just so when I phone up a little later I don't get a shock of what it costs as in the 13 years I've been riding I've only had one seal go and I'm sure that was about £50 back in 2005.

That sounds reasonable, and was in the ballpark for the leaky seal on my RSV with Ohlins. Sadly, they needed a £300 rebuild, instead of just the seal frown

You can save some money if you remove the fork legs yourself. I was quoted £60 for both legs if I did that from an independant.

TBH though, it's getting the stanchions off the bike that is the most time consuming part of the job. Once you have the legs off changing the seals should be fairly straightforward *

  • Unless you need any special tools of course.

You can trust Nutsmoto in Wymondham. The owner's an ex engine builder at Lotus, and StuB on here will vouch for his work as he's the lad who helped him out when he had an off whilst racing at Snetterton smile

Watched this the other day, which explains it well and suggests cheap DIY alternatives to proper seal drivers and the like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrmYJgcGX30
