My boots have just started to split after 2.5 years of near daily use which has been impressive especially as they are Frank Thomas ones. I need to be able to wear them all day in work (smartish) so plain styling black leather sort of thing. Don't mind spending a bit as they will get loads of use, any suggestions?

Why not just buy a cheap pair of shoes for work?

Altberg.

They are British, and started out making walking boots, so they know a thing or two about comfort. A lot of Police bikers use them.

Plain designs, good soles and you can walk for hours in them.

Yes, this and 100 times this.

Office shoes = cheaper and more comfortable for sitting around the office. Why wear out your expensive bike boots walking around?

OP Whilst if I was forced to sit around my office all day in bike boots I would only recommend my daytona roadstar GTX as they really are very comfortable boots from new I just keep a pair of shoes at my office, job done and they really are more comfortable than my very comfortable boots all day.
Are you saying you have zero storage at your office?
I keep a lot of non bike stuff at my office for the times (normally winter) when I need to leave the office and go outside etc, I've been used to keeping spare jumpers, coats, umbrella, shoes at my office for years for just such occasions because wearing bike gear while not on the bike doesn't make sense or is the most comfortable.

The top spec Daytonas are great bits of kit. Boot within a boot.

I have Roadstar GTX, and they are the best boots I have had, by quite some margin.

I'd still have a pair of shoes under my desk though.

Perfect just the sort of boots I'm looking for.

Been happy for 2.5 years walking round in my current boots, why would I want to change into shoes if I don't have to? And no, work in a lab in the middle of a hospital can't keep changes of shoes there, get away with leaving my jacket and helmet in the bosses office, don't think she'd be happy if it became a full changing room with shoes etc dumped there hence why I'm very much a Kevlar jean, smart boot rider :-)

Don't you have to take your boots off to change leathers/trousers? so what's the extra effort? I don't like wearing boots all day as my feet get too hot.

Just thinking outside the box, so to speak; can you start shagging your boss so she's happy for you to leave all your gear in her office?

you work in a lab, you must have a place to put your PPE if not speak to them and get somewhere.

that or put your shoes in a bag and hand them from where you hang up your lab coat.

I commute on a bike to work in various hospitals all year. I manage a full change into smart clothes no problem, there's always somewhere to stash gear in my experience.

Labs however may be more difficult. Places where I'm unsure about storage I put panniers on and leave helmet and boots in the bike. Havnt had to do it in years though.
