I've just done the CBT at the weekend, woo! I was thinking of getting a 125 and riding a bit. Then I'd take the direct access test and get something a little bigger. I asked the guys doing the CBT training and they said it'd be best to go ahead and take the test asap and cut out the 125.

Question is, what's going to make me a better rider? The guys said that it's easier to train someone that doesn't have the bad habits. But I suspect the on-road practice would generally be a good thing.. I suppose I'd lose money on the 125 'cos I'm not intending owning it long (not a massive problem). Also I'm guessing I'd just have to learn how to handle the bigger bike. Is that such a big leap?

Oh yeah, any comments on doing the DA course during the winter?

I did mine in October (a bloody long time ago )

I'd have though that would be OK

Why don't you do a days training on a 500 and see how you feel

I would guess you'll never want to go back to a 125 again but it's horses for courses

I found the GS500 far easier to ride than the CG125 that I did my CBT on - I did a 3 day DAS course, including CBT and found it pretty easy - if youve been driving a car for any amount of time then its mainly just machine control you have to learn.

Go for the bigger bike - 125's are bloody slow!

Do the DA and skip the pissing about on the 125s, they're that slow that they're dangerous.
