What are the road cans like on a ZX6 R Ninja?
Anyone here got that setup? What are Akroprovic like in general?

Because they are road legal, will it not make alot of difference to my already rediculous insurance?

Cheers

I understand that they are one of the few end cans that actually improve the performance of your bike.

And that name is soooo cool.

Yep.
There's no second R. Akrapovic.

They are to racecans what Ohlins are to suspension. I wouldn't turn my nose up at a Yoshimura either.

Dave & I have Akro systems (the can & link pipe, not the full system) on our bikes - fitted & set up with Power Commanders on a dyno they make an extra 5 - 10bhp. On the blade, the exhaust valve is removed when the pipe goes on. It increased the midrange on both bikes & filled in the holes in the torque curve (which exists due to emissions laws at standard).
The other benefit for me was a smoother throttle response and erasing the lag at low revs.

We have the road legal systems with removable baffles - which is cool! I think the Akro's have a nice raspy note to them without being obnoxiously loud!

Gee shucks

Kitty stickers are from a shop in Guildford that specialises in all things Kitty but there are some good online places too...

I really rate the Akro systems, had a full system on the old blade & a full system on my Kwak 7R too.

They are beautiful sounding pipes which produce the biggest power gains, I am running a 65mm Akro end can, and with only a few other small mods I gained an extra 250 RWHP

DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE

Just because they throw buckets of money at WSB etc doesn't make them the best, IMO they are over priced and mediocure at best.

I'm not saying crap, just not the best. When I was racing and having to pay my own way i.e not being paid to run an Acrapovic we dynoed dozens of cans and systems back to back on a ZX7RR the result were shocking and the Acrapovic system (system not can) gave no power increase what so ever over the stock Kwacker item (yes it was lighter though) in the end we ran a Micron system with a Renegade end can the reasons being Renegade will supply the individual parts that make up the can to repair them after an off plus they can be stripped apart and re packed without any drilling of rivets etc (the wading is actually crucial to maintain the power gains) plus they were both made in the UK and IMO that matters, and cheaper. No they don't have the pose value down the pub so if thats what you want pay the extra but if you look you can get a custom made un branded better performing and cheaper system and can in the UK.

Sorry to buck the trend here, they do look nice but there's a lot of crap spouted about cans and its not until you dyno them all back to back, and strip them down you find out the truth.

I must admit, I heard one on a Ninja on Sunday at High Beach and it was'nt any more exciting than any other cans to me. But then again I am a complete novice where it comes to bikes at the moment.

Thus I tend to agree that they are a bit pricey, so may not be going down that route.

I'm happy keeping the bike standard for the first year now, so as to get me first years NCB.

I just remember reading an article about lots of race cans were they were all dyno'd. The Akro, Yoshi and Micron were among the few (probably quarter) that actually made any difference without ruining the torque.

But they do look nice don't they?

If it was an MCN article then it was probably made up anyway, If it was RIDE then I have a bit more belief in it as they appear to actually do the tests.

A statement of fact is that I know a can manufacturer who was livid after an MCN article came out a few years ago, he had submitted a can for testing and when the results were published they bore no resembalance to he own results, he asked for his submitted can back and when it returned it was evident it hadn't even ever been fitted. He who pays the piper calls the tune.
