Why do manufacturers insist on spoiling a bike by fitting wooden tyres? eg my SV650 had obnoxious MZ4's on it?

This totally ruins the feel of the machine, and makes the whole experience duller. WHY DO IT? I wouldn't mind paying an extra £100 to have decent tyres. Safer too. Surely sales would be better if decent rubber was fitted?

Lesson to be learnt, Bike Manufacturers: fit good tyres, and make us happy.

Aye aye to that.

My Buell came with aparantly specialised Dunlop 207"U"'s. They were completely $h*t so a set of Pirelli Diablos sorted the bike out although the Harley Dealership I bought the bike from thinks I'm nuts not using the OEM tyres.

I really can't see why apart from the fact that their crap tyres are £350 and my diablo's (considered one of the best sports road race tyres are a mere £160 less at just £190!

I have to say, I think regarding sportsbikes they're getting their head on now. My gixer 600 came with Pirelli Evo corsas which were a great road tyre.

However, my SV650 a few years back came with the same kak MEZ4s as yours did. Aren't they sh1te? I remember sliding them loads on the road and eventually replaced them with Dunlop 207s which although not the last word in grip, offered a massive improvement.

I think they're putting Dunlops on the new SV650s now. I've no idea what spec they are exactly, but you can get your knee down on them a whole lot more confidently than you could on the old MEZ4s.

My new Beemer K12RS came with Bridgestone 020s, they seem to be gripping well, it's a heavy bike especially in the shitty weather we are having at the moment. I don't know how they will wear though.

I had MEZ4s on mine - not exactly confidence inspiring in the dry and just plain scary in the wet. I replaced em with BT020s which work in the wet and dry, don't square off nearly as quick and last longer. Like Carl, I can't understand why you'd sell a good bike on crap tyres.
