Use a trolley (or scissor) jack on the downpipes, cheaper than £50 for sure, I've done it on dozens of bikes with no ill affects smile

Abba stand is a fab bit of garage kit for the money.

Lift arm and strap adds functionality, aids wheel/chain maintenance too, a time when you wouldn't necessarily have the fairings off to use a jack under the downpipes - which with options like this I would rather not do anyway.

Good to have around along with swingarm removal kit. Never know when you might need it. I might get the skate this year to make squeezing the bike into the corner of the garage easier mid-big-job too.

Recommended.

I have an Abba stand as well as the arm as shown above. I have just purchased my second one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310263353127?ssPageName=... so that I can leave both bikes on stands over winter without the weight being on the forks / tyres. The Abba kit is great as is all there stuff (I also have the bead breaker) but I wouldn't leave it for months with just the strap holding it. It may well hold no problem but I prefer something more substantial.

this, just watch though if you have a bike that leans over a fair bit on its side stand get a chunk of wood and put it under the side stand. it will bring it upright and make it more easy to align the abba stand as I scratched my stty ninja in places as it was impossible to fit the abba stand yourself.

TOP TIP, SERIOUSLY. the abba stand looks piss easy in the video and it was with my triumph but with my ninjas its a bh

A friend of mine managed to scratch his ZX6R with an Abba too.

I thought he was just being his usual ham-fisted self, but maybe I did him a disservice.

I've never had a problem using an Abba by myself though on an SP1, a Thundercat, a Gixer 600, an NC24 and maybe a couple of others I can't remember.

Ive also used a front paddock stand.

I had the forks out, to get them serviced.
Its got a small bottle jack under the down pipes, it was like that for days waiting for the forks to come back.

as I said with my Daytona its a piece of pish, but with the ninjas they sit at a rather pronounced angle, they really are tilted over.

the one I scratched has 190 tyres on it making it much worse and was set up for a heavier rider so the ride height was much taller.

you really need a hand or a block of wood to install the stand otherwise it falls leaving a nice score down the frame.

I was speaking to another ninja owner and he doesn't use his as he had the same problem. I just thank god it happened to my track one.

Mine is a monster so fitting the abba stand is dead easy

A lot of the paddock stands look a bit easy to drop the bike. !

And the threaded inserts and machined adapters to go into the hollow swing arm spindle... Undoubtedly it would be cheaper to make one yourself if you value your time at nothing.

oh its a fking huge rip off!

it must cost peanuts to manufacture, I have no idea why they don't lower their price and kill paddock stands off.

The front lift bit is two lengths of what looks like 40mm square box, plus three bits of 50mm square welded together, an M8 nut and bolt, a bit of 8mm rod and two blanking plugs... oh and some paint. And a strap, as Graham points out biggrin

The main stand is, as you say, a tad more complicated, but if it were me I'd sub out the machined bits to someone with a CNC lathe and bar feeder, that way they'd cost peanuts.

If I was making one for myself then yes, I would value my time at nothing and spend the money I'd saved on coke and hookers gifts for the wife. Not my wife, obviously, as I'm not married... whistle

Like the Warrior one on Demon Tweeks? It must be made in China for that money. The welding looks distinctly Machine Mart.

I can't afford a Bursig right now, else I'd have one of them ultimately for my uni digs for lifting the bike in a couple of seconds for basic maintenance... And in a perfect world an Abba Sky Lift in my parents garage, or the Abba stand I have and a lift.

For now that cheap as chips made in China warrior stand would do for my uni digs... Quickest way to lift the front and rear of the bike for chain maintenance and cleaning.

Nobody makes a spider stand with adapters for my ZXR though. I guess with one in hand I could potentially make a fitting adapter though...

It is made in China but the welds are OK. The legs should be one piece like the Bursig though, I reinforced them by welding thicker wall box sections full length inside. The lifting mechanism/damper/frame adaptors and castors are where the money is, and I wouldn't bother trying to machine and fab all the bits to save £130.

It's not necessarily a case of saving £130 (or any sum at all in fact), some of us just enjoy making stuff wink
