Odd engine transplants
Discussion
In the 90's I road a C90 with a 150cc engine stuck in it. It was mad especially when it came to stopping. Or turning.
I've just spotted this oddity.
TZR250 fitted with XT600 engine
Why!
That's a (fairly) rare bike and will be quite sought after plus the XT600 engine is, well, just wrong!
It must be very strange riding it.
What odd engined bikes have you come across?

that looks like it's been inspired by the old supermono race class .

These used to be all the rage, FZR400/600, GSXR7/11 etc, but these days a current ZX10R is short lighter and dimensionally smaller than a ZXR400. Shows how far things have come in the sports bike world. More power and less weight than exotic £250K WSB homologation specials of 15 years ago.more like it -

True, it's a shame as the specials were more interesting though I reckon. Shame you don't see so many now; I guess the last were the R71s where people bunged an R1 engine into an R7?!GTIR said:

Used to Speed Hill Climb against a bike with that set up, XT motor in a TZR250 frame, could be the same bike but it had staight bars in it's day. I've just spotted this oddity.

The owner has made several specials before and after, previous was an XL/XR500 motor in a TZ tube chassis, more recent an Africa Twin motor in an import TZR chassis and I think an Aprilia V-Twin motor in something very compact. All were done to a high standard but good specifically for Hill Climbing (ie small tank, minimal seat padding and little consideration to vibes!).

Not bikey, but my mate put a MG Metro Turbo engine in his old Mini City without upgrading the brakes
Haha - top one - I put a stage 3 tuned MG Metro 1300 engine in my 875cc mini clubman. 10" weller wheels meant short gearing and with drums all round, I regularly used to pull up after a fast run with all 4 smoking like mad!I remember an RGV250 in Performance Bikes mag years ago that had a Triumph Bonnie engine!
I love stuff like that and I've done various myself over the years. My last was and E30 325 Sport with a 535 engine transplant.
Went liked a stabbed rat.
I do fancy a mental Supermono though, anyone got a Mito that's spare?

One of the bike mags in the mid-80s featured a Norton Featherbed frame underpinning a Rover V8... it broke the urban speed limit on tickover.
I recall it had belt drive to the separate gearbox; the builder implored the mag testers to take it easy as he knew the belt was the weakest bit.
They broke it
ETA: bu993r me, I think this was it...

And to think I thought NorImps were mental I recall it had belt drive to the separate gearbox; the builder implored the mag testers to take it easy as he knew the belt was the weakest bit.

The article mentions 'Mac' MacDiarmid; one of the other staff writers at the time was a guy called Brecon Quaddy... I used to be on the floor crying at his articles, he was that funny. 'Gut-splitting word-pictures' was how a later reviewer described his style.Last I heard he'd gone into finance or similar and hadn't written anything for years.
Another article I recall was when one of the staff went to Belgium (?) to test ride a new frame from some guy nobody had ever heard of called Nico Bakker: he found himself 'riding faster than he'd ever ridden, on a bike he'd never seen, in a country he'd never been to, in the rain'.
I think it may have been a big Yamaha motor, but as it was almost thirty years ago...
Those were also the days of Moped Mayhem... now there's a race series worth bringing back

Apparently, the BMW 650? flat twin from the adventure bikes will slot very neatly into a 2CV, giving double the power, double the revs and well over double the performance...
Probably the bigger ones, like the 1100/1150 etc. There used to be a little car called a Berkeley, which was a three wheeled fibreglass contraption in the sixties. Bit like a bubblecar. Anyway, they had a ~250cc Villiers two-stroke engine in them as standard, but a few people put 700cc Royal Enfield Constellation engines into them. They'd have shocked a few people back then
