YAMAHA YBR125 CUSTOM?

Hi all, I'm tempted to put £1100 down on a new Yamaha ybr125 custom.
Then the test in fianacé over 3 years - cost about £2600 with cbt free. About £45 month payback
2 year warranty/ rac ect

Any thoughts on this bike in general ? I need for work about a 20 miles round trip each day .

Would you advise saving money and getting 2nd hand have seen for about £14,000 with low mileage

It depends if you want to keep it 3 years, accepted wisdom is to buy a used one for about a grand, pass your test then sell it for what you paid and buy a bigger bike.

3 years is a long time on a 125, but a lot of folk happily keep them for ever, as cheap transport to work and back they can't be beaten, if you are wanting to travel further afield you may find it lacking after a while.

Always nice to get something new but if you have some patience, you'll find something lighly used second hand, sorry to bang on about the old man again but we picked up a 3 year old YBR with 2000 miles on it and in as new condition last year, you could save yourself a grand..Its been a great little bike and ive enjoyed riding it on the odd occasion.

The best advice I can give you from what I saw and found is your better off buying a second hand jap 125 than any new chinese 125.

Personally I would go for a second hand Japanese 125. Once the initial depreciation has passed, they tend to hold their value remarkably well and being such unstressed and simple bikes they are reliable and cheap and easy to maintain.

I hesitate to suggest it because I really don't like them, but if this is purely as a tool for low cost commuting rather than getting a foot on the ladder to the proper bike, then have you considered a 125cc scooter? Arguably more practical for a commuter with better weather protection and storage space.

The way the prices are on these things, you might as well buy a used Japanese 125 for £1000, run it for forever or run it for a few years and lose about £100 in depreciation.

I'm new to this forum so assuming I writing in the wrong areas, thanks for feedback. It's tempting to buy a 2nd hand but like the 2 year warranty . Had to much stress with my 2 cars so may pay the extra and have peace. If the insurance quote will go down £700 year. Joke

I agree, did the same for my Son, only lost £60 in depreciation over 2 years. However someone has to buy the new bike in the first place so that we can get the used deal...

I agree but i dont have the funds reall to buy a bike for £1200 and then about £400 for all equiopment needed for the bike or more. so may put £1000 down on the bike then finance the rest £45 month, was spending £150 on my old car on fuel. decisions decisions

Also if i buy a 2nd hand bike i know nothing about mechanics, could be dodgy then have to pay for my own CBT / might no get a warranty on a 2nd hand bike depending on age.

Why don't you go for the standard YBR model for 2014. They have just facelifted it and it looks like the CBF from the front now. I've just bought one a couple of weeks ago, lovely bit of kit.
