Ok, assuming I sell my beloved SV (I am skint until March downer), what do I get in spring (when finances are a bit better!). I'll have about £250/pcm "spare" by then. Any recomendation of group 15 or less? I was thinking;-

a) Ninja 636 (04)
b) Ninja 636 (05)
c) GSXR750 (04 or 05)
d) Buell 1200 silly name
e) Z1000
f) Z750

Or the wildcard

g) MT-01

I feel something mental coming on! having got my 5 years NCD, I'm thinking it'll be cheaper to insure any bike from now on.

Is this where we are meant to remind you you should never have a bike, because you told us to stop you if you ever ask?

The Sprint ST looks nice, tempted myself. Arranged a testride in Feb.

The 636 is meant to be good, but on the Triumph theme, the Daytona 650 is regarded as the best chassis already, but now with a more powerful engine.

In the words of "Performance Bikes"
"If you buy a jap 600 without test riding the daytona first, your an idiot"

As a sports bike - GSXR750 I'd say - either 04 or 05 would be awesome.

On a personal note, I too like the look of the new Sprint ST, looked fantastic at the NEC, but not seen a review yet - anyone?

I think the gixer 750 comes up trumps. I think they give more feedback and have more personality than the other bikes in your list except for maybe the buell. Bah, get the gixer. It'll be more fun.

I suggest an SV650S. I'm picking one up shortly and will gladly sell it to you. You can pay me £250 per month for the next 16 months, making it an absolute bargain at £4,000.

I think you should go and make the tea. Didn't Mr Hertsbiker (is it Carl?) mention that he's considering selling the SV at the start of the thread?

Yours sincerely

Benny, he was *joking* !! hopefully he's buying it off me next week.

I will have to trawl the bike mags endlessly until the time is right.

Of course I said to tell me not to get a bike again ! I can't seem to help myself.

Yeah, Buells still look great don't they? I had a test ride & loved it, but got put off by some of the long-term reviews. Wonderful bike with some issues. If I had enough dosh, I'd still get one problems or not.

Hertsbiker,

Are you commuting mainly in traffic or on the motorways or a bit of both. Basically do you need a lot of wind protection. I commute on a 2004 Fireblade (CBR 1000 RR) because I use the motorway and don't want to get blown to pieces, plus it's good in traffic and around town, it can get a bit heavy on the wrists but that's the trade off.

I have thouhght about an Aprilia Tuono, New Triumph Speed Triple but always stick with the Blade and Honda reliability and build quality. Insurance wise I pay £475/anuum fully comp for the blade with 3 years NCB (the insurance is with Honda Insurance Direct). I had quotes as high as £1,200 and Honda were by far the cheapest. They do cover for other bike manufacturers so might be worth a call.

Good luck with your choice.

Andy

Of the first 3 years of ownership, 18 months were spent riding and the other 18 months the bike was in the dealers workshop!!!
It a love hate relationship and you need a second mode of transport as back up!

Check out www.badweatherbikers.com for all the info required to keep it on the road!

Have a test ride on the new KTM Superduke or their new supermoto, they look the part and reports are pretty good. Even if you don't get one the test ride should be fun.
