I haven't been to Mallory, but have been to the Ron Haslam Race School at Donington Park and can say that it was probably the best spent time that I have enjoyed since my mother introduced me into this world. The only frustrating item to note was a slight lack in overall track time. I think that we were only out on track for a maximum of an hour. However, the feedback from the instructors was easily digested and improved riding style and confidence no end. Beware of your road speed on the way home!!

Whose a norty boy & been 'peeping' or should I say 'stalking' lol!!

James, you're not the first person to feel there wasn't enough track time. I'm not sure how similar the one at Mallory is but I think it teaches the same principles.

But saying that, I did the Ron Haslam school twice about 5 years ago & it gave me the confidence to start doing trackdays...

It gets my vote! and if you like them, you'll LOVE the California Superbike School!!

Kitty,

How are things? Have been out of the loop recently working in the US and the weather hasn't really been Ducati friendly recently. Hondas should be ok though.

On the subject of track days, I know that the Psychosis crew frequent Folembray, Nogaro, et al on an infrequent basis; can you hire bikes at these events as a good friend of mine and myself are looking at getting out on to the continent where you are guaranteed decent weather (hope). I would take me Duke but he is between bikes at the moment.

PS Sorry for the small thread hi-jack.

PPS Stop snooping for Xmas goodies, it ruins the surprise! I have hidden the missus's lady beard trimmer somewhere very safe. She'll never find it in the garage.

Merry Xmas and a Good Weather New Year.

James

I took a different approach, just booked a couple of trackdays

You get a lot more track time and there are instructors that come round and give you hints.

I reckon a couple more before I do full on tuition (Superbike school, if any)

My first track time was at Mallory, using their CBR600's. Learnt a bit, but was disappointed with the amount of track time. The track is also so short you feel dizzy going round it.

I did Mallory twice last year and as a newbie to biking and particularly the track it and worked out fine for me. I agree an hour is not that long, but at least the instructors did try to keep the track time up as much as possible when I attended. You do get the bonus of their bike and their leathers, lid etc which did make things more convenient for me with only commuter kit at the time. Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers,

Steve.

watch the devils elbow kids, it'll have yer leg off! Take it easy getting on the gas hard coming out of gerrards as well - seen some mighty highsides following people out of the corner.

Go for it. Listen to what the instructors have to say - they can really help you out. Enjoy the day. If there is any option, make sure you use their bikes, especially if you are new to tracks! Wearing a back protector of some kind is also a useful precaution. I slipped a disc at Jerez recently cos the bloody thing moved when I came off the bike - make sure it's secure if you do choose to wear one.

It's horses for courses innit! (Ai)

The race schools are perfect if you need a bit of confidence or skills to start doing track days - which is only a good thing as there are more and more club racer types doing track days that think they own them so it can be a little intimidating!
Having said that some people don't want or need to do it - so that's fine - as long as you don't go along expecting a track day and heaps of track time then you won't feel cheated!

As for the Frenchie Forays.... indeed they will continue - have Nogaro, Brno & Val de Vienne on the horizon. 2 days back to back at Val is the one I would reccomend if you want to join us James - the hotel is amazing by a river and you can virtually see the track... the track is a wide, smooth & twisty 2.6 miles of 18 corners that include double & triple apexes & all sorts of madness!

Anna,

Do you all ride down to Val? What sort of money is required to finance this excursion? Can you buy tyres etc. etc.??

Val is less than a day's ride, being just south of Poitiers - if you have newish tyres it won't be a problem at all - some of the chaps take vans & track only bikes - it's really down to you tho'.

If you're interested drop me a mail & i will make sure you have the info you need.
