Does anyone here have any experience of racing quick cars upto 130 and over?
Got to be really careful..
If a car can do big speeds, the bke advantage erodes as the speed rises. Those little rolls off the throttle (to assess the closing speed of the tranny van in the inside lane for example..) at 170+ make the bike lose speed very quick, and if you have a car up your chuff they will hit you even if they brake.
Allegedly.
Ahem.
I have both fast bikes and fast cars. In the real world (roads) I am always quicker on the bike simply because of traffic - even when it's moderate bikes can get through more quickly, plus filtering, etc.
However, cross country with v. light traffic I am faster in the Subaru STi.
Corner speeds are higher (more rubber) accelaration is not down a lot once over 50 - and at the top end it's quicker. And it stops quicker than the bike.
315bhp, 4-wheel drive, big tyre print v. 115bhp, single wheel drive and small tyre footprint
That said - I prefer to travel by bike!

Ok R1 168bhp and 170kgs v 320bhp Ariel Atom 495kgs
Atom wins every time!![]()
Would prefer to drive the Atom too!
Its faster in every way!
Have you tried the programme Atom? Anything against a GSXRthou gets wasted. Read Autocar's 0-100-0 yearly event, the R500 evo or R550 perhaps (so similar yours) broke the world record ( Ahhhh! so faster than yours) and still couldn't touch the 8 grand bike.
This thread is about acceleration and the mighty Gixxer, not bike v's cars in the real world. Thats the other thread in General gassing I think (where the bike wins). The atom v's a bike is also a separate thread (where the atom does okay but it is against some small 600 thingy with a rubbish rider to suit Clarkson's anti-bike storyline)!
Nothing will stay with the GSXR's 0-150 time of 12 odd seconds unless it is very very expensive.
Bottom line is any clown can drive a car, only someone with a bit of talent can pilot a 1000cc sports bike.
Well unless there is a load of traffic i disagree that i get held up anymore in the Atom than I do on the bike.
But if, and it is rare, that i do get held up in traffic i can sit there in the knowledge that everyone in the traffic with me is looking at the car and wondering what the Hell im driving! Can you say the same about your bike?

Well ok to cover some of your points:
I took on a Bandit 1300 and beat that in a drag race. Im in the process of getting a lot more horses and torque into the engine, as the drag was done at 290bhp. The car has launch and traction control, so should kick the arse of the R500.
Yes they did have a 600RR, thats not that much of a crap bike, and im not sure that a 1000 could have got the power down any better to use the extra? 4seconds is 4 seconds though!
If you think you could pilot the car, then by almeans i will let you have a go. But i think you will end up in the first gravel trap. the car isnt that easy to drive, and certainly not when you are giving it some beans
ps if you crash it you have to buy it!
hmmmm.. Beat a Bandit 1300 in a drag race..... Bandit 1200 only has 100bhp and weight over 210kg, not actually that quick, more of a wheelie machine.....
Did you see the top gear 'race'? The CBR rider was not riding hard, even on a thou, he would have been the same speed.
The straights on that track would ensure that a good fast rider would have blew past him. Don't forget Clarkson will be very fast round that track. He may not be the best driver in the would, but you would expect him to be quicker than most, and round that track he will be very quick due to the amount of practise he has had..

Nords,
I think you'll find, as Atom says, that his sort of car is very tricky to get going really fast in anything other than a st. line, (as is a bike). I think you'll also find that 'any clown' can pull quick acceleration numbers on the bike, as long as you know how to get it off the line quickly.
Ultimately, its not about 0-100-0 or 0-150, which is all very nice to quote, but about how quickly you can 'drive' somewhere, i.e. round a track. I'd like to see a comparison at a track, somewhere like silv GP for example. The accel times normally come down to a combination of power, weight and more importantly aerodynamics, where the car obviously loses out at the higher speeds.
I think if Jon were to take you round the 'ring in the Atom, you'd get more of a buzz than you would on your gixxer. (I've done about 350 laps, about 70 on which were on an old R1 and the rest in a variety of cars, and the cars are nearly always more exciting - although not necesserily quicker). Depends how you want to get your thrills, through pure speed, or through the 'thrill of driving (riding)' (to quote 'evo' magazine).
PS the supercharged VTEC is quite a bit quicker than an R500 Evo to both 60, 100 and above...... and could probably stay with your gixxer (on std gearing) to about 100 I reckon.

Atom, I'm sorry. I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere are the moment and haven't riden my bike (or any car less a white Toyota 4Runner) for the last six months. Having re-read my post, it was a bit agressive (I was trying to wind eliminator up too but gave him a

I think the atom is a great idea really and although wearing full waterproofs (aka EVO in northern Wales in the winter) probably doesn't 'pull' the ladies, the idea of making a car as light as possible is the only way to go.
Check out Phatgixxer's post about Castle Coombe, come along and try to scare me as a passenger (I admire you for offering me a drive but I doubt you are that serious - I wouldn't let you ride my bike unless I knew a bit better!!) Just watch out for CC's noise restrictions, my std can will have to go back on.
PS I think I would make a lap before trying too hard into Quarry!!
PPS What I really believe about an atom V's a bike on the TG test track is that the bike would outacclerate it to the first corner and then, if the rider knew what he was doing, take up all the corner and not allow the atom past. Witness 'ring war' where the ZX7 (why not an RC30) 'races', well sort of, against an alpina BM.
Bikes rules on acceleration but fast cars rule on cornering and braking. I know, I have had 964RS overtake (actually more like cut me up on an apex) me at the 'ring doing 20 mph more. I was on a 996S Duke. I would drive any car around the 'ring but I'm not sure about the gixxer, that might be too scarey!
No bottom line on this one!!
I echo your thoughts on the Ring, I wont ride there at all anymore, due to witnessing too many accidents, and realised that i just wanted to improve my times, but at what cost?
I would at least take you out, as for the drive, if you gave me confidence of ability to drive and ability to repair then i wouldnt have an issue. That said youd be a first!
When is the TD at Combe? We ran the car at Combe back in September, noise was an issue as although we were fine with the static, the flyby was a bit bad
The supercharger and dog-box whine a little!!
Quarry is a fun corner, much sideways action was had

Atom, EMed. Sorry about the spelling etc above, it posted it when I pressed preview!!!!
Some trackside CC action here...
