I'm on my way back to bike ownership.

My last bike was a new 2001 R1, i sold this six months later. Mainly due to a dodgy back, which is much better now.

I have obtained a free CBR 400RR which is a start, but it really is too small for me. Sooo i'm looking at getting a big sport bike with touring ability. Needs to be cheap(ish) though, as i want to keep my other toy (TVR).

I'm looking at spending £2000 max + CBR P/X

My list so far:

ZZR 1100
CBR 1000
GSXR 1100
ZX9R

Are you selling the CBR then? If so, how much would you be looking for for it?

The CBR is my brothers...he just doesn't want it anymore, and being in the Navy doesn't have time to ride it!!

Having not seen the bike yet, i am wondering what sort of bargain i'm getting. He says it's a good un.

My plan is to ride it to a dealer and px it immediately for a bigger bike.

What i'll get/worth..? Dunno, certainly depends on it's condition.

As a TVR owner, flying the flag is obviously important to you.

Your 2k cash, plus maybe 2k for the 400rr would get you a very nice...

Triumph Daytona 955i

of any interest to you?

If the riding position is still too extreme, the Sprint RS or ST.

perhaps even a Speed Triple - excellent for protecting your license as 100+mph isn't sustainable for long.

Have a look around, these bikes are built for proper sized people. The dealerships are a bit hit and miss but most will give you a decent test ride, try that with your local Jap dealership.

You'll never know unless you give it a try. The 3 cylinder howl is addictive - you have been warned.

Your right about the noise...I think they sound great...sort of growly

Hmmm, now i'm really thinking

Just like to add that i haven't had this feeling of excitement/anticipation for bikes in years!! (maybe the break away did me good)

Can't wait to dig my gear out.

I agree with this. I love my Speed Triple even if it is 9 years old.

For a sportier bike with touring capacity I'd suggest the ZX9R as the best all-rounder. Or possibly the Thunderace.

Both of them can be had pretty cheaply.

If the Sprint is too much for your back, try the Tiger. The styling is not everybody's cup of tea but it makes a great touring bike with the 955 motor.

The Thunderace isnt a bad bike , goes like the clappers when provoked , scared me shitless yesterday coming off a roundabout sideways though

Must get rid of those crappy metzlers (sp?)

I would go for a ZX9R , i like me kwacks i do

I've got a 1999 'Blade and I love it.
I bought it from DK 2 years ago, having test rode the following:-
VFR800Fi ( good but a bit heavy/not quick enough )
Thundercat ( under rated comfy 600 )
Thunderace ( fast but hard seat I thought )
1998 R1 ( more power than the 'balde but too frisky)
Firestorm ( good v twin ride but too many vibes )

What I like about it is that it is still fast enough for most ( although more power would'nt go amiss ), its quite comfy ( for a "sports" bike ),and it isn't too tiny ( like the new 04 bikes). Its dead easy to ride fast, but if touring, then maybe a blackbird would be better.
