This year the Old Gits are heading back to the Picos on Northern Spain to have another go at the wonderful roads. This is a big trip with 27 people and was fully booked.(There was supposed to be a maximum of 25 this year!)

Unfortunately, one of our number has had to pull out due to work commitments which means we have hotel bookings and ferry bookings that could be transferred. The ferries booked are from Portsmouth to Bilbao on Wednesday 15th June then Santander to Portsmouth on Saturday 25th (arriving in Portsmouth early evening on Sunday 26th) June and include bike, rider and a single occupancy en suite cabin.

The hotels are booked for bed and breakfast and are just under €60 each per night with three hotels for the 9 nights.

While there are a large number of us going, we don’t do organised ride outs in large groups and we don’t do guided tours. If you want to ride with someone else then there will very likely be others going in the same direction as you. If you want to do days out on your own then that’s fine too. The big advantage of such a trip is that, having had a great day out riding, you can come back to a hotel where there are a load of other people who share your enthusiasm for biking and with whom you can enjoy a meal and a drink.

If you’re interested in the space on the trip then either PM me via here or check out the www.old-gits.org site and message me from there. Unfortunately, we only have a couple of weeks to either transfer the bookings or cancel them so you’ll need to be quick and the space will be allocated on a first come basis.

So if I bought the missus I'd need another/different cabin?

I'd be keen to come but sadly the timings don't work for me this year. I've subscribed so maybe next year, I'd prefer to do France/Southern Germany.

Take the seasick tabs, there's nothing worse than being a prisoner on a ferry vomiting for Britain - especially across the Bay of Biscay!

I'm an old git but will be in Germany in June with a different posse of old gits biggrin

The dates don't work for me I'm afraid, and I wouldn't class myself as an old git either frown

Old Git is as much a state of mind as a physical age. This trip the age range is from late 30's to 75.

I wish I had the time off available to do this. It sounds brilliant.

Do you have to be male to be a git?

Unfortunately, yes! We’ve been asked a couple of times if we’d object to ladies joining us and the general consensus from the group so far is that having ladies along would change the dynamics of the trips and most were not keen on that.

Pity as it sounds like a great trip.

We're heading to Picos in September and were thinking just the same thing with regard one base camp and having day trips from there. I take it from the write up of 2015 that you'd recommend the Hotel Infantado in Ojedo?

Secure bike parking etc?

We didn’t stay in the Hotel Infantado in Ojedo in 2015. We stayed in the Hotel Silken Monumental Naranco in Oviedo. This was a great hotel, with gym and pool (although we didn’t get time to use them) and secure underground parking. The food was good and the hotel bar prices were extremely reasonable. It’s close enough to Oviedo old town to walk there although there are plenty of restaurants and bars locally. It was so good, we’re staying there again this year. Cost wise, we’re paying €55 per night for B&B in a single occupancy room as a group booking with an extra €8 per car parking place per night for secure parking. We’re booking 1 car parking place per 2 bikes.

Duly noted thanks, although the write up does mention the Ojedo place as well I'm sure?

We're doing similar to you since reading your comments on the write up, Ojedo for a few days then heading West. I'll reiterate Oviedo as a potential.

thanks

Can you imagine trying to refuel at some of those tiny self serve stations with 2 or 3 pumps and only one of them is 98 octane. With 4 we found it irksome. With 6 it was a downright menace.

27 will be like herding cats.
