Does the battery icon in the top right have a 'charging' lightning zigzag on it when the sat nav is on your bike cradle? And connected to power, obviously.
I ask because I got a Zumo 340 last week and it doesn't *appear* to charge when I put it on the bike. Cradle is connected directly to the battery so presume it should charge - but Garmin support couldn't confirm whether it should show the Lightning symbol because 'when it's on the cradle it just maintains a level of charge, it doesn't actually charge.'
Clear as mud.
When I plug it in via USB it charges with the charging symbol, and there's voltage to the pins on the cradle cable.
Just what you need two days before a big trip...

If you go for a ride for about an hour, does the battery level drop? does it drop if the unit is in your pocket?I ask because I got a Zumo 340 last week and it doesn't *appear* to charge when I put it on the bike. Cheers! I've been fretting about it since Saturday when I wired it up on the bike. Wired it to the Multistrada's accessory plug, that didn't make it look like it was charging. Then wired it straight to the main battery and same result – it doesn't switch on when you put it on the cradle, and there's no charging symbol so presumed it's jiggered. Perhaps that's just normal behaviour.
I got a multimeter out and checked the two pins on the cradle and there's about 5v there which seems right...

When plugged in and the ignition is on it has the charging symbol, as soon as ignition goes off the power symbol goes and it states power has been lost, turning off in 15 seconds. Mine is a 340lm. Sounds like yours isn't working as intended.
Amazing, thanks so much Rutter! That's good - I hopefully have a 390lm turning up tomorrow. Hopefully it'll just clip onto my 340 cradle and work. PH, you've excelled yourself this time!
These things charge via pins on springs, don't they? - that's the weak link in the setup. I had to return one of these units last year as it wouldn't charge out of the box - went for the next range up instead.
You get corrosion on the springs and pins, you need to use contact cleaner and grease to keep them in working condition.
