I've just got my first puncture, and I've discovered that I've got no idea what to do. I managed to get home, and have since found a bloody great screw in the tyre.
Do I have to take the wheel off and go to a tyre fitting place, or do mobile puncture repairers exist? If so, anyone know of any in the Maidenhead/Bracknell/Ascot type area? Or do I use that emergency spray stuff and ride it to the nearest place?

Thanks for help.

Can't help in any other way than.........nooooo - don't use the emergency spray stuff as (AFAIK) it 's the tyre up for good 'n you'll have to buy a new one no matter what

DON'T PUT ANY OF THE TYRE FOAM IN A CAN CRAP IN YOUR TYRE!!!!!!!
It will ruin the carcass and the fitters won't repair the puncture. Take the rim off and visit your local bike tyre specialist and see if they will repair it.

If you want to prevent this happening again I suggest you invest in a product called Punctureseal. It's a liquid that's placed in the tyre and seals any puncture as it happens. The difference between it and other products such as Slime or any of the others is that this stuff has been tested at speeds over 150mph. Have a look on www.punctureseal.com/about.htm for all the techy info stuff.

I use RoadWheel Tyre and Exhaust (who used to be in bagshot but hence moved to fleet)

I tried the 'permanent preventative' liquid seal and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Lasted for a couple of days before spitting gunk everywhere and leaving me stranded on the motorway again with an unrepairable tyre

If you've other transport and stands take off the wheel for repair, otherwise I like the temporary rubber strips you plug the hole with using a tool that looks like a darning needle. Then you can ride to the shop..

Depends on the brand and if it was applied correctly. Most of them are only rated up to 70mph so no use to anyone, however this stuff has been tested up to 156mph. I've used the punctureseal stuff in my bike and gone seriously in excess of the speed limit with no balance problems or adverse effects (autobahn as well as challenging alpine routes) I have it in my van and car and have made sure it's in my mothers car as she doesn't even know what the spare looks like nevermind how to change it.

Someone told me that many places won't fix a motorbike tyre puncture for safety reasons so you need to buy a new tyre anyway.

Is this correct or some more dodgy advice best left in the pub?

I've got a mobile tyre fitter coming round today. He has told me that if the damage is a very even circle (e.g nail or screw) rather than a cut caused by glass, and is central in the tyre, he is willing to repair it. Otherwise it must be replaced.

I used Ultraseal. I think the claim is 150mph and 3mm diameter hole. It's also credibly endorsed but didn't work for me.

of course , sealant and plug fillers will only work if the tyre is tubeless....mine isn't :-/
