Busa or ZZR1400?
Discussion
I'm looking at selling my K6 GSXR 750 which i use for track and using my K8 GSXR1000 on track instead.
As the other half likes going on the back of the 1000 I'm contemplating replacing it with a 2013> Busa or a 2013> ZZR1400
Anyone had any experience of going from a litre bike to a big sports tourer? regretted it? best move ever? I'm worried it might feel big/wallowy etc but wud really like something that is comfy for the other half and can get some decent luggage for
Another option wud be to put a deposit down on new GSXR1000 at the bike show......

Ok - I have a heavily modified ZX10R.
A CRF450R thats road legal.
A ZZR1400 14
And the GS Alpine.
The 14 has done everything the 10R has including alpine passes, switchbacks, autobahns, etc.
Only the last 5% does the 10R edge it and thats only due to it being lighter and less tiring.
For pilllions, etc the 14 is unbeatable.
It makes the Busa look like a Bandit.
The only reason I now have the GS is due to nerve damage so long distance on the 14 is uncomfortable.
It's not going anywhere though - well not unless someone makes me a proper offer anyway

I too have a 750 and have been thinking about a ZZR1400.
Have done lots of research but not ridden a 14.
The conclusions I have reached are:
The 14 is way better than the Busa particularly 2012 on which has TC.
Lots of people say the 14 rides a lot smaller than it looks and has good cornering ability. The very smooth fueling is mentioned by everyone as is the monumental power. However, sport 1000s aren't at all far off although the 14 makes more torque at 4k rpm than a 10R at peak.
The 14 is way more comfortable than any other sports bike but the reach to the bars can still feel a little long.
Despite the generally good view of handling and low speed manners some people say the 14 is still a big bus - I suspect these people are well experienced track day riders who are happy at 8+ 10th on a bike in most circumstances.
The 14 is tricky to work on due to the monocoque frame but not much goes wrong - rust at the rear of the tank seems to be the biggest concern.
Seem to hold their value OK - £8k is about the lowest for a 2012 with lowish miles but I suspect a new model will be out soon so values may suffer.

The Hayabusa does feel very old school (it is basically a 1999 design) - torquey, long low & lazy but for most situations better than it's rider and just covers distance well (600 two-up miles in a day easy).
Gen 2 doesn't have the low down shove of a Gen 1 but only noticeable when ridden back to back. Brakes are the biggest let down on the Gen 1, cramped seat to footrest distance on both models.
Can't comment on ZZR as never ridden on but the riding position feels a lot more modern from sitting on one in a showroom.

Riding position on the 14 is still head down'ish but nothing like the Busa.
OE bar risers make a massive difference and are cheap.
It will happily chase sportsbikes through twisties and have them wondering WTAF is behind them as they aren't getting away.
Only at low speed is its weight apparent - not in a bad way but it isn't a 600.

not on your list, but i love my bmw k1300s
Expensive to maintain and ugly. Can't really see what it brings to the table over a 14. Shaft drive is only for beardies so they don't get it stuck in the chain
I don't know how you can call any bike ugle when being compared with a 'Busa!

I don't have a beard!!!!

Cheers - I have sat on both, but it was a while back...i remember one being a bit of a stretch and one being ok, but i cant remember which!Have done lots of research but not ridden a 14.

No more expensive to maintain than either a ZZR1400 or a 'Busa. (My last K1300S did 54000 miles in three years and my current one is 8 months old with 19000 miles on it so maintenance costs are important to me.)
Think we have done this before and you said your suspension didn't need servicing at 54k and was fine. Fact is compared to a serviced setup it would have been dreadful and the ESA suspension is a pig to service and therefore costly. As things deteriorate with age you get used to it but keeping a K1300 feeling fresh is going to cost you a lot more than a 14.Just IMO but you have to be a big BMW fan to run one over a 14 and put any sensible considerations aside. On four wheels I run an e60 545i because overall it provides what I want for a cost I'm prepared to pay. Having researched K1300 I have zero desire to have one in my garage.

I'm assuming the gen 2 could be improved with a PC or messing with gearing etc then?Gen 2 doesn't have the low down shove of a Gen 1 but only noticeable when ridden back to back. Brakes are the biggest let down on the Gen 1, cramped seat to footrest distance on both models.

Ask BMW to do it and they’ll bleed you dry for a new shock!!
In general, the K1200S had an ability to attract some very large maintenance bills. The K1300S has addressed most of those issues and is no more expensive than any other bike to maintain, even as they get older.
When I was deciding what to buy after my K1200S I had it down to either a K1300S or a ZZR1400. I ran a poll on here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=124...
The most interesting results from the poll was that although the overall score was pretty close, the majority of those who had actuall ridden/owned both bikes went for the K1300S and none regretted their decision.
Did a trackday at Silverstone in May and a few superstock 1000 guys were out. I was on my TL10000R, and down hanger straight, the 1000 superstock stuff shot by once over 130mph, like I was stood still.
There was a lad on a ZZR1400 perfromace (with the akra kit) and he was going past the superstock bikes bike they were going past me! Flipping fast accelerating bike, although he was a bit wayward in the turns trying to scrub off all that speed! Awesome tool, get one!
