Triumph Tiger Sport OR Yamaha mt09 Tracer
Discussion
Just a quick question really, am in the market for a new bike and was wondering what people would choose out of the above 2. Have got a test ride on the mt09 tracer tomorrow and have ridden the old tiger sport, just wondering what bike people would go for. The tiger was a touch too high for me so would possibly look at getting it lowered by 1 inch which I think would improve my confidence. Mainly a bike for fun, a bit of touring etc, no commuting.

I haven't ridden the Triumph so it's a one sided opinion but as fast and great sounding the MT09 is (with an akra) it just felt too high priced for the ride IMO.
It felt like a cheap bike and certainly put me off it.
Also think the Tiger is a much better looking bike
Just my 2p worth.

I loved the new tiger when I rode it, it feels far better made than the tracer, the tracers engine is lovely, but the rest of the bike lets it down imo, the 2016/7 tiger has ironed out any problems that the previous bike had not that it had many.
I wouldn't bother with panniers and top box as they weigh a ton, givi top box and roll bag and you've got yourself the perfect sporty tourer, good on fuel, comfy handles lovely and the engine is so smooth, but has character, the SMT is a great bike as well, and for the money excellent, my brother has one and he loves it

Tracer is a bit manic but a good value little touring machine, Tiger is a slightly more grown up version perhaps. SMT is both, it wil cruise about but it always feels like a dog straining on the leash to me, fine if you enjoy making progress but hard work if your mates are the "slow and steady" types. Took my SMT to the Picos in September, had a ball charging around the mountains.
Own a 2016tracer that I have put 7.5k miles on upto now. I got a 2 week old bike with 45 miles on the clock from a main dealer for 7.1k so deals to be had on x demo bikes.
Tracer for me is good for long trips, I did a 931 mile ride round all Ireland in 24 hours the week I bought it and got off it with no aches or pains.
I would say overall the tiger is prob the better bike but I like the looks of the tracer more and tracer is lighter.
Try both and buy the bike that suits you more, End of the day its you thats going to be doing the miles on it.

Well just got back from test riding the tracer and it was great fun, a real Jekyll and hide bike. This one had the full titanium exhaust which sounded great and the bike certainly went really well. Gave me great confidence in the twist's and good at filtering and town work. The one I test rode is for sale for £7k with the exhaust, heated grips nd a few other bits 2016 model, with under 3000 miles on the clock so very tempted by that one.
he new tracer is £8699 so a fair saving and the exhaust is £1000 just by itself.

Has the new tracer got the revised software which sorts out the snatchy throttle mapping which seemed to plague the earlier bikes?he new tracer is £8699 so a fair saving and the exhaust is £1000 just by itself.
