Well finally went and booked a wee test lesson on a bike, a school local to me offers them free as a sample to see if it's really for you before committing, as i've been lurking in here for months and dribbling over bikes on Instagram for years i've decided to go for it. All going well i'll book my CBT for the coming months and progress from there.

Any tips for something like this? i presume it will be basic manoeuvres in a car park type of stuff.

Really looking forward to finally taking the steps i've wanted to for years.

Basic controls
Steering
Some cones and a car park.

Relax, enjoy. That is what got me started.

Exactly as you said, went really well considering April's rain finally fell in May.

Another lesson, CBT &Theory being booked ASAP.

Good luck with it.

I'd never been interested in bikes until I had a go on my brother in law's a couple of years ago. Three or four rides up and down a dirt track and I was hooked. Finally got round to doing my CBT last summer and did my DAS last week.

Enjoy doing the CBT and lessons, the thrill of being out on a bike in the sun can't be beaten!

I'm the opposite, i've always wanted one but never really had a shot except for on the back of a couple or quad bikes (if they count), never bit the bullet though so glad i finally have got my a4$£ in gear, which thankfully was harder than getting that cheap Chinese bike into gear on Saturday.

Recently got my arse in gear too, did CBT a few weeks ago and have a 125 arriving tonight to bosh around on for a month or so until I'm familiar with the controls to confidently do my DAS. The misses will be doing her CBT soon also so she can use the 125 for general pootling about moving forward.

Good luck chap

Glad you enjoyed it, I did my CBT in January and passed theory last month with Mod 1&2 in a few weeks. Picking up a YBR125 on Saturday for a short rental and using a twist and go 125 scooter to commute (cheating a little with no gears maybe!). All exciting though !

One thing I would suggest if you are an experienced driver is download a cheap Hazard perception test app. I did a mock expecting full marks and I bloody failed catastrophically by identifying hazards too early and as a result scoring 0! An hour on the app and I knew the system and dropped only a few marks in the real test. Worth the £2.99.

I rammed it all in to as short a time-frame as possible. CBT on April 1st through to Mod 2 pass yesterday. I bought the theory/hazard perception DVD from Halfords which I found very helpful. Along with the advice to click when you spot the hazard, wait a second and click again, wait a second and click again.

Good luck!

I did all of my tests in 2 weeks as well and had never ridden before a week of intensive training. I did my theory test the week before and then CBT on Sunday, riding on a 650 from Monday to Thursday and then Mod 1+2 on Friday. My first bike is a GSX-R600 which is a very easy bike to ride below 8k and then from 8k to 16k it's pretty fast. It's very light, smooth and gentle until it gets to about 8k, I actually think its easier to ride than the ER6n I learned on.

What are you going to buy for your first bike?

You're right about the hazard perception, there is a knack to when you need to click!

I've booked a second lesson for June 18th and I'm BUZZING again, CBT planned for July but due some other financial commitments this might be August, if it is i'll do a third lesson to keep on top of what i'm learning. The Theory can wait till i'm going to book the DAS, the test centres in my works building so no worries about time for that.

Honestly so glad I finally bit the bullet.

Why don't you scrap the second lesson and just do the CBT?

Doing my CBT this Sunday. I originally had it booked in November but put it off because i'm a big jessie and don't like the cold/have any plans to ride when its pouring or freezing.

My old man is a biker and actually makes his living buying, selling and building bikes. I had dirt bikes from the age of about 8 until I was in my late teens but never rode on the road because my mum made me promise I wouldn't. I finally realised I'm a fully grown man and can do what I want. Had a wee taster ride last Sunday and it was like..... well, riding a bike.

My old man is about as excited as me although he's trying not to show it. He's already set 3 "wee bikes" aside for me to use after Sunday. I grew up with the driveway and garages full of Norton's, BSA's, Triumphs, Velocette's, Royal Enfields and the odd VIncent. And i'll look to ride similar eventually. The modern sports bike stuff isn't me.

It was always "some day" for me too.
Eventually did my CBT with some intrepidation and after that rode around on a 125 for the 2 years, eventually got test done about a week before CBT ran out. Actually really enjoyed life on the 125 and it was fine for my commute, but I think I've put more miles on the bigger bike in 3 weeks than I did the whole 2 years with the 125.

For anyone else thinking about it, it's really not as scary as it seems, bikes aren't nearly as vicious as they look/sound, it's not all crazy and adrenalin fuelled, it's actually very calming.

Sorry for the delay, been in the countryside all weekend with no interwebs (bliss)

I wanted just to make sure i'm confident enough for the CBT as the weather was rotten when i had my first lesson so was more weary than i should have been as i could barely see the lines on the pad. The instructor did think i'd pass a CBT after one but i'd rather do another for my own peace of mind.

Going to book the CBT for July hopefully, the very latest will be August as i have a few do's and weekends away planned in July.

I'd seriously look at just doing the CBT. It isn't a test so much as a day of observation which results in you being awarded the certificate so long as you aren't too much of a Muppet.

Once you're happy manoeuvring on the car park they'll take you out on the road and get you really comfortable on the bike.

It's a great day and most places will do a 'guaranteed pass' offer for an extra £20 or so if you're really worried about it.

I did my cbt and das with them, I can't compare them with anyone else but I've no complaints about them. I went from having never even sat on a bike to passing both tests first time.
Listen to what they tell you and most of all just enjoy it!
What doubts are you having about them?
