Awful news. Just seems so unfair that he was killed riding a bloody bicycle after so many years racing motorbikes.

Terrible shame.

Feared the very worst with the complete lack of news and info but still hits you to have it confirmed.

Rest Kentucky Kid, you were one of the best.

Of course you can say look at Rainey and Kato and Simoncelli, but reality is - street is more dangerous (whether you are on a bike or a bicycle) especially if not closed off for racing. Look how many die in TT and Irish road racing every year, and look at Schumacher, all those years in F1 and then that freak accident....

It's a terrible tragedy, I just hope he did not suffer these last few days.

Terrible news, this.

He always came across as nothing less than a totally affable chap, and I'll remember how he kept his head screwed on to win the 2006 GP championship after being skittled off by Dani in the penultimate race at Estoril.

Just a few hours before Nicky, in the same hospital as he, Julia Viellehner, German Profi-Triathlete, died, a week after she was hit by a truck while cycling...
