I've put off buying a new bike this year waiting for it so the sooner the better, and hopefully the base model comes in under £20k!.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but why don't more manufacturers use a V4? It seems like a very good layout for bike use, being relatively compact (allowing a nice, narrow bike), interesting noises, power, high-RPM capability thanks to a nice short crank, etc etc.

Much better than an I4 or H4 imo.

I fear with the "Baby-Panigale" still selling at 14K in base spec and Honda charging 18K for their Fireblade SP model (presumably with similar Ohlins/Brembos) you (and I) might be out of luck mate.

Leave it with them for a couple of years and it'll be sorted.

I see a v4 in the garage soon cloud9
Sod the price this is the bike the D16RR should have been.
I predict it'll make all other superbikes redundant overnight

Be interesting to see what Aprilia have coming.......

Agree with the above, I think it is about to kick off a mini BHP war, base spec reckons 210bhp, never mind what the S and then R versions might kick out.

Jeeez. That's some wild amount of power. Can you get all that down?
Dry weather only I suppose.
I couldn't use that amount of go on the road.

very tempting indeed, even though the power (for the street) is just nuts...

It's a fking 1100cc engine though. Fine for road and Trackdays but screws up anyone that wants to race it

It also smacks of ducati wimping out against the competition. They didn't think they could win the group tests and reviews at 1000cc so they cheat. s

"The road-going version will have a displacement of 1100cc from the V4 producing 210bhp featuring a counter-rotating crank with a twin-pulse firing order, while the racing version will be made with 1000cc in order to meet World Superbike regulations."

They could always cheat the group tests like BMW do every time by loading the bike up with all the performance parts (lighter wheels etc)

Expensive engine configuration (4 cams etc....)

Certain amounts of power on the road upto a point you just get used to...but I honestly think that amount would always have you giggling like a clinically insane person once home after a decent ride every time

Yeh, but who is going to want to buy the less good lower cc version, so it's going to tank resale and limit the market to race bikes only. Pain in the arse

What's the difference between that and the 1200/1300 Panigales?
Same meat, different gravy.

True, but the R1, Ninja, S1000RR etc are all pretty expensive bikes!
