Not sure if the title is gonna work...
eta: the title didn't work
Lets hope it sets a precedent and those vests are banned.

In our view the police jacket together with the look of the vehicle combined to produce a look which a member of the public would be deceived into believing that you were a police officer performing his duty.
So, no actual mention of the POLITE vest then.Perhaps an alternate thread title could be:
Trouser wearing w
ker convictedalthough that does assume he was wearing trousers.

Well, funny enough if you read the article it does mention the vest!Perhaps an alternate thread title could be:

Anyway we're supposed to hate on POLITE vests ok?! Get with the program lads.

Agreed total Walter Mitty type. Can you imagine how s
t your life must be to get your jollies dressing up like a traffic policeman?
Personally I think the vests are for bell ends, but I'm not convinced this is the last you'll see of them.

So the opinion of the person passing on sentence was that it was the combined effect of the 'polite' vest, outfit, motorcycle, crests, and blue lights (the reason he was stopped) which actually led to the modest conviction. Personally I think the vests are for bell ends, but I'm not convinced this is the last you'll see of them.

Why are we supposed to "hate" POLITE vests? I believe people wear then as they think it'll make the be seen. It appears that they work. I expect most commuters on here could not say how many riders they saw this morning wearing yellow helmets, but they would have a good idea how many POLITE vest they saw. BTW, I couldn't give a toss about POLITE vests.
Banter (at least to me) doesn't mean agreeing with every ill informed post attempting to generalise individuals according to what they choose to wear.
By all means call him a w
ker for riding a BMW ... oh! Hang on a minute ...!

You seem to be having difficulties with reading the words!

So just to be clear. You didn't read the article properly, and now that's been pointed out by the OP, you've ignored his response and got a strop on about something else?
Now I really am
I did read the article. The article mentioned a number of things including, but very much no limited to, the POLITE vest. The Magistrate, the one who actually passed the judgement, and the only option that actually legally counts, especially given the thread title, did NOT mention (as reported) the POLITE vest. They DID mention the police jacket.

No. They don't.

They specifically mentioned the stripes on the arm which only real police vests have. So a bit of both.

The police jacket to which the magistrate referred had been adapted with a Polite vest stitched over the critical wording, albeit still with the distinctive three reflective strips as opposed to regular HSE two.
That aside, why anyone would want to look like a uniformed police officer in central London right now is beyond me.
