Finally almost finished the new garage. I've put ground anchors down into the concrete floor, so next up is to look into chain/lock combinations to keep the bikes safe (or as safe as they can be!).

So far i've gone for extra secure roller shutter doors. I'm also going to be fitting my own fabricated bars/locks across windows and doors to prevent access.

What would your recommendations be for securing the bikes to the ground anchors?

In the past i've used a fairly flimsy ABUS 8mm chain and/or an ABUS granite disc lock. Neither have ever been tested in anger.

I bought some 10mm "hardened" screwfix chains which feel solid enough, but probably aren't that great as they were cheap, so they'll be used for garden equipment and cycles.

Any suggestions welcome!

I think the usual verdict is to call http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/

Their website is a bit out dated but they do make some great products.

I use this

http://www.oxfordproducts.com/motorcycle/brands/ox...

Not portable though at all. Purely for permanent ground anchor work at home.

Its properly beefy though.

Personally - not just because it's a mate - I prefer Pragmasis stuff, they have a lot more interesting security solutions and their ground anchors are superb.

A few others in this forum use Pragmasis stuff. It's approved by insurers too.

Regarding UK bike thefts, and if it´s for home use only, make it as difficult for the feckers as it can be :

http://boatgeardirect.co.uk/chain/product/173-self...

Think out of the biking box and find some industrial-sized chain, in Germany I found link dia. of up to 40mm.

I'll be honest, i'm not a fan of Oxford stuff. Had lots of their products over the years and they're usually crap. Granted i've no experience of their chains/locks though.

Almax looks good. Not cheap but certainly seem the best available. Interesting they recommend the Squire SS65CS padlock as i had already got that on the short-list of padlocks.

Thinking that rather than buying individual chains/locks i could make do with 2x 2.5m almax chains and loop them though 2x ground anchors each.

At the cheaper end sportsbikeshop are doing 40% off a mammoth chain/lock combo:
https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/...

Has some good reviews and seems quite solid - 12mm chain and 11mm shackle on the lock.

This ... got two chains from Pragmasis and it is very high end kit. Really nice people to deal with as well.

Yep, great products, insurance discounts work well too. They saved my RMX250 from an angle grinder attack from the scrotes too!

Incidentally - although I have the Pragmasis 19mm listed on my insurance my insurer in a strange attack of common sense accepted that this was for home use and I don't actually have to cart a 12kg chain down the shops with me.

Also - this is how paranoid I am after having my R1 stolen in 2014. The pic below is the pile of locks and chains I had to take off my R1 the other day so I could clean it - it's chained to two Pragmasis anchors. That's not to mention the security to get into the garage to start with. It's a pain in the arse!

That's two Pragmasis chains, a Magnum chain, an Oxford revolver, two generic chains, a cable and an alarmed Abus disc lock. frown

Another vote for Pragmasis. I used their stuff when I was racing and had one of the ground anchors in the truck. I still use one of the 19mm protector chains on the FJR. The methods they use for testing is far more rigorous than some of the larger manufacturers

Thing is, G40 steel is tough, but I'd be interested to see how it holds up to a freeze/shock test.

I guess then the revolver would not be branded "Oxford" , but "Smith and Wesson".

Each to their own and fare enough, im happy enough with the nemesis chain and lock as its an almighty big bloody chain. Only other oxford product ive used is their sport heated grips which again are top top notch.

Have you ever had a bike nicked? Or two in the same night? I did.

You’d have that many locks. Never again! frown

Note sure what you are aiming to spend, but I have been looking at the following, as some secondary security for at home.

It's Mammoth like your other post, however I think the link maybe different.

How do you lock it out of interest?
