ATV - Quad bikes

What are the laws about using Quad bikes on the public highway ? We've had quite a heated discussion at work & no one knows the rules.

From memory, even when road legal, they are classed as agricultural vehicles... not to be used further than 3km from registered address unless it used for crossing roads between fields (or something like that)

They also donot have differentials ( I believe) so will try and throw you off if you try and corner too fast.

They can be road registered in the same way cars and bikes are with no restrictions. Couple of friends have road registered race quads.
