Due to my unique proportions: short legs, giant gut and spindly arms (form an orderly queue, ladies), I've finally given in to the badgering from my local bike shop and I'm getting a made-to-measure suit, using my own colours and various custom trinkets and stuff. With that in mind, I figured I'd start this thread as a little blog of how to piss away money on well-assembled pieces of dead kangaroo.

It all started a few weeks ago when enjoying a particularly fine flat white at Bike Stop in Stevenage, I was asked to have a go on the new Dainese CustomWorks configurator because apparently I'm an IT nerd and we love stuff like that:

https://customworks.dainese.com/configurator

It's a pretty slick little tool and you can happily waste hours on it just tinkering about and seeing how high you can get the price. Turns out that you can tip £5k if you go mental on a D-Air Mugello R. That was a little rich for my tastes so I started out with a Laguna Seca and made it up to match the colours of the Fireblade. Naturally, with my keen eye and exquisite taste, it looked amazing but then I remembered that I've never owned a bike for more than 3 years and it'd look rubbish on whatever the vNext bike is. With that in mind, I ditched the red/white/blue scheme and thought; fk it, if it's going to not match, it may as well not match properly.

So I did it all again but with my favourite black and fluorescent yellow colour scheme. I really want to look like a fat traffic cone. I finished my design and submitted it on the site. I received a call to book my measuring appointment and got myself booked in for May 19th, where I'll enjoy the enviable experience of having to wear an unflatteringly tight spandex suit whilst a small Italian man gets dangerously close to my penis with a tape measure.

Between the time of booking the appointment and now, I've since decided to piss away more money and opted for kangaroo leather with the Kyalami suit, yet retaining the robust black/fluo scheme which I'm sure you'll all despise.

Details to follow after Saturday. I bet you can't wait.

Have you definitely signed up for one of these? If you use the Bike Shop then you can't be too far away from Hideout, who also do made-to-measure suits:

Worth getting a quote from them? (If nothing else, they are close to some great roads so always worth a visit even if you don't buy anything)

I've had stuff from Hideout before and yes, it's really amazing stuff and they're a fantastic bunch down there but I fancied going Dainese this time smile

So long as it's the right yellow smile

This is what it should ultimately look like (but fatter, obviously):

So for the hilarity of Pistonheads - shall I pop in and record this, it'll give us all a laugh.

Ah, if only they did it in the centre of the shop and not in a private room smile

I just looked at this and it's great but expensive. I'm comparing this to my BKS made to measure suit.

Bike Stop have a great business model, buy a high profit margin coffee from them, which leads to you browsing for stuff you didn't know you needed!

Admit it, it's just a very expensive way of hiding the fact that you really want to wear a high-vis bib...

Actually it looks rather cool, and that configurator is great fun

I know, right? You can really come up with atrocious designs if you put your mind to it.
