I've finally done it
Discussion
I finally bought the bike I've wanted for so long.
After riding a R1 and R1m at brands gp on the yamaha pro tours day i've always wanted one, I've always held back though as everyone says 1000s are too much for the road and the yamaha is a poor road bike, and to make it harder still i've absolutely loved my daytona 675r
I rode the S1000rr on the road and it was a lovely bike, but it wasn't what i wanted, so i decided on the R1
and here it is

I've only done about 100 miles on it so far, it's really impressed me so far though, yes around town it's not that great, mainly due to the tall gearing and having to feather the clutch a bit, but get it on the open roads and it's such a smooth bike to ride, the throttle isn't as bad as some people say, certainly no worse than my old street rs, the suspension isn't too harsh and the riding position is more comfy than my daytona, although that was a small bike and i'm just under 6'
My favourite part though is the noise, it's just intoxicating, once you get on the throttle you just don't want to stop, and this is the problem as the bike hides it's speed extremely well.
Just waiting for the weekend now

I looked at one Anniversary R1 myself, I love that color combination with golden wheels, beautiful.
In the end I went for GSXR1000R in blue but I still look at speedbump-yellow R1 from time to time..
Tell me, your Daytona, was the the exhaust-under-seat model? I have the later Daytona 675 and these were made more comfortable (higher handlebars, lower seat).
When I tested R1 a couple of years ago it felt very committed in terms of sitting position and really felt like a 600cc bike, but the throttle in A was very jerky, nowhere close to the glass-smooth (cable-operated) throttle on 675.
Congrats anyway! Great purchase!

No one told me just how much the insects like the paint scheme, bike was covered earlier, bloody things crawling everywhere!!
I've got the same one in speedbump yellow, and it's true. Parked next to other bikes and it's covered in wasps, and my mates bikes are insect free.My main gripes are the ludicrously high gearing (my 1999 R1 can pull 4th 5th and 6th perfectly around town, the new R1 is in 1st or 2nd) and the seat; try doing a trip of several hundred miles in a day and it's agony - easily the worst seat I have ever sat on. Even worse if you are wearing a rucksack. I intend to get a replacement seat from this place...

that come highly recommended.

I think maybe saying it was uncomfortable was unfair, i think more cramp is a fairer way to describe it, especially as it had rearsets which were quite a bit higher.
The R1 is just that little bigger so i've got more room on the bike. The throttle in power mode 1 is jerky yes, but put it in 2 and it's fine.
It's a shame Yamaha dealers with them as demo bikes are so sparse now as you really need a few hours on it to realise it's actually pretty good on the road.

Three days on the track with R1 last year, I loved it.
To give credit to Yamaha, as far as I remember, they never said it was road-bike first, track second, it was always track first and road if you want.
Beautiful piece of machinery you got there, I am jealous (in a good way).

Are you offering extended test rides. If so. Dibs I think maybe saying it was uncomfortable was unfair, i think more cramp is a fairer way to describe it, especially as it had rearsets which were quite a bit higher.

It might be the only use it gets if it drinks fuel like it has been

Question for other owners, are your clutch cables pretty tight when you put the steering lock on? Checked the routing and it all looks how it should be to me.
