Are you mad?

The police don't tune them, they are completely std less added electronic bits like radios etc.

Go and buy a GSXR 1000!!!!!

The truth is I'm thinking about using this engine in a kit car, but was after a bit more power than standard... thought the biker banter pages might provide an answer...

cheers...

Ah-ha Jaker, I was wondering along those lines. The GSX 1300R 'busa engine is obviously a favourite, as are R1 and ZX-9 engines. How about a zx12 or even a goldwing engine which has a reverse gear already? No idea about pan engine tuners though, US shops might be the best place to try?

Hi Jaker

I'm considering a similarly silly project, my research has made me exclude all the interesting options as it's only really the race stuff that gets tuned to any extent

It might be more expensive to initially buy say a hyabusa lump, but the tuning parts are cheaper and there's a much greater depth of knowledge (you can buy upgrade kits off the shelf good for 400 hp )

Let us know how you get on

Truth is I'm not sure how much power I 'need'...

In a car weighing say 550 kg with me in it, I reckon 150bhp would be pretty nice.

Well, thing like the XTR can get down to 400kgs in race trim, and some of them are handling over 300hp

Probably time to bring out the again

I think 150 would be plenty and the V4 should give a good power delivery too. Unfortunately the easy way to 150hp is just to buy a blade gixxer Z12 R1 etc engine

Or pay that bit extra, get the busa lump have the option to tune it to buggery

What's it going in ?

Very nice,

I seriously considered locost racing, and the whole Stuart Taylor setup seems really good

I guess it depends very much on what you want out of it. I ended up doing the Caterham Accademy and would reccomend it to anyone

Doesn't strike me as being a good place to start from, the Pan is hardly the sort of bike that tuners concentrate on.

As others have suggested, much better to start with a 'busa/blackbird/gixxer engine instead...

Yeah, I know... tourers arent really tuner-fodder, but I was wondering about maybe a small bolt-on turbo or some such when upgrade-itis takes hold. It's supposedly a nice strong Honda lump, so I guess it could take the pain.

Anyone know what the engine dimensions are for a Pan European?
I'm thinking of putting one in the back of a Grinnall Scorpion to replace the K100 8v that is currently there
