Interesting!

But why can't they cover the collector a-la-2016 model? Is there a reason for this, like heat management?

All the big boys are producing updated 2019 versions of their bikes, new Fireblade, Ninja and now a new RR, and all promising in excess of 200bhp, will be interesting to see how they compare.
My local BMW manager has seen the new bike, he attended presentations a few months ago for a high level review of the new bike. When asked he was careful not to share any details, nothing, but he did tell me that the new bike is nut and bolt all new, chassis, engine etc and when launched it will make an impact like the first RR achieved a decade ago.I of course wait to see the details but he suggested revolutionary tech and the bike is beyond another level. I imaging the price will be too.
From the render I also see the navigation wheel, hope it will retain heated grips, cruse control and a fuel gauge.

I don’t doubt it will be an amazing, very capable bike and I like the look of it too, saying that, I doubt it will be a real ‘game changer’ like the original was as it caught the Japanese napping at it took them a while to catch up.I of course wait to see the details but he suggested revolutionary tech and the bike is beyond another level. I’ve got a Panigale V4, is it a fantastic bike, of course, but it’s by no means the game changer the press said it was, its impossible to buy a bad modern superbike, they’re all just that good.
I’m looking forward to hearing more about the new S1000RR though and I bet it will sell well.

No more lopsided headlights... puts that back on my list of wants. Shame that the price looks to be a heck of a lot.
I was thinking the same. Those lights WERE BMW S1000R(R). Now it looks like any Fireblade/Panigale...Personally I didn't mind the lop sided lights. At least it was distinctive.

Sad to see them go.

People can’t be asking for too much more from the top bikes now, hopefully it will be all about getting the package spot on, amazing brake feel, all the tech, obviously a stonking engine etc
Thinking about it, an area that's remained the same is gearboxes.
Yes they have quick shifters and down blippers, however it still attached to a conventional gearbox.
Yamaha tested a dual clutch on the 2015 R1 but said it increased weight to much to be a viable option.
Maybe Bmw have an answer to that, or not and it's the same.

I imagine its going to be well north of £20k for one of these.
Look forward to seeing what the they do with the R too.
We don't think it'll be that high. We're hoping for a £18.5k max but then all of the goodies taking it over £20k, same as the current model.Look forward to seeing what the they do with the R too.
I reckon a starting at £17k
Just a retailer hunch.

Is it possible to make as big of an impact now? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.
I guess that depends on what sort of area we're talking. I remember when the early S1000RR were out with heated grips and I was surprised to see them on a bike like that.If we extend that, then haven't KTM recently been looking at auto-cruise control (keeps distance)? Honda already do DCT gearboxes albeit on different bike type.
So perhaps it'll bundle those sorts of things in? As to it's more direct "sport" aim... if they can achieve a step change, fair play.
