I might have a quiet work week coming up at the end of the month, an I can possibly get a great deal on the NCL AMS ferry with my bike.
(Like a dick I’ve sold my RT so it’ll be on a Vespa GTS - it does 75 easily though - I didn’t go much quicker on the BMW)
What’s realistic arriving Wed am in Amsterdam and sailing home again on the Sunday teatime?
I’d fancy Alps ideally, but I’m more thinking Black Forest would be a lot handier.
Is it still warm enough to camp? Where does everyone like?
Thanks

Last year I rode to Stuttgart for Oktoberfest. That was on a Blackbird though. Took about 6-7 hours in one ride but that was all motorways, just rode to get there as quickly as possible! I camped out and was perfectly warm with a decent sleeping bag. Stuttgart is pretty near the Black Forest and has the Mercedes and Porsche museums. If it’s your thing Oktoberfest will be running from the 28th of Sept to the 14th Oct.

Hi Martyn, was that 6-7 hours for the whole ride, or just the continental bit?

That was 6-7 hours from the Hook of Holland to Stuttgart. I got an overnight ferry from Harwich and Just blasted down there. My destination was Stuttgart and the Oktoberfest so just wanted to get there as quick as possible hence just knocking it out in one go.

The big question is, what are you going to Europe to do?
Are you there to ride your bike on fun roads or are you there to see fun things?

I rode a CG125 from Somerset to France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Back to Germany and through France to home in 10 days.

I did 2100 miles all up! Most days were 250mile days and that was relatively easy and do-able albeit at 55mph!!

Calculate based on 200mile days if you are happy getting the riding done.
