The 2005 R1 engine is out of my bike engine car for a new head gasket. As this is quite a ball ache it would be good to upgrade any other parts that are likely to fail or can be improved.

Current thinking is replace the oil/water pump and upgrade the clutch.

Any suggestions/experiences gratefully received.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. It will be getting a full service including checking the clearances as it goes back together.

Sorry, check the inlet valves especially because the stems can wear causing the collets to fall out resulting in a a new engine.

I had a slight tick on mine with only 9k miles on No4 pot. New inlet valve and head gasket was around £60 using Yamaha parts from a main dealer.

And camchain, tensioner and guides. I'd also have the sump off, clean it out, see if there are any foreign bodies floating in the bottom like metal flakes and gasket sealer for instance. Then clean out the oil pickup strainer.

Have you already got a sump baffle in it? Worth doing if not.
