track day helmet - with one of these inbuilt sun visors
Discussion
so getting a new lid for track days
my current shoei has one of these inbuilt sunvisors ...
is that ok for track ... or better to get one with a tinted/clear visor dedicated to the conditions at the time
a lot of the ~£200 helmets have these built in these days so forces me up a bracket !

Helmets with inbuilt visors are generally road biased. Sure, safe enough, but would be heavier, and probably a bit less peripheral vision.
I would look for a more track focussed helmet. Plenty around for not a great deal of money, and some come with tinted visors.
My AGV k5-S is not heavy at all and has a drop down visor, it would make an ideal 'track helmet' if there is such a thing??? I used to use my old HJC IS-16 on track too, that also wasn't too heavy, if you have to have a new one (and I don't understand why you do if you have a perfectly good Shoei) just buy what you fancy, what fits and what's in budget.I would look for a more track focussed helmet. A flip down sun visor feature is a massive help, in any situation surely? . I’ve not used one but I assume the track Is another place where it’s very convenient because you can instantly adjust to conditions and be in the optimum state for all conditions.
The problem is tha all those type of helmets look utter cack. So it’s a no from me.

If you're a fan of Shoei helmets already and are wanting a visor for bright and dark conditions, just buy another Shoei helmet with one of their photocromatic visors. They really are brilliant.
Ive read mixed reviews on these visors(and the auto tinting pinlocks) , many saying the visor doesnt get THAT dark Vs a "proper" dark visor, any input appreciated as I am also looking to replace my lid and have been finding the lids, like my Mrs HJC, with an integrated dark visor very appealing. I have the X-Spirit 3 with the photochromatic visor.
I find it very good. My Schuberth SR1 dark visor is far too dark for most occasions.
The normal dark tint Shoei has a green tint where as the photochromatic visor is more grey.
It is very helpful not having to change visits on long rides. The only downside is the cost £150!!

I've used a Shoei photocromatic visor with a clear pinlock for just over a year now.
Previously I have always used the traditional clear and dark visors and swapped them over as needed.
It probably doesn't go as dark as the very darkest of visors, but it has never left me wishing that it would go any darker than it does.
The only niggle I have with it is that in foggy conditions it darkens down when it should really be clear, but I can understand why that happens.

'Utter Cack ' - I don't think so

For track use I'd be looking at a proper race lid with a clear and dark visor for different conditions. Both with Pinlock to stop fogging.
Shoei X-Spirit 2/3
AGV Corsa
Bell Star

Go to a decent seller and try at least 2/3 on, buy the one that fits your head best.

Friend had the end of his nose almost entirely removed by a HJC internal visor.
Make this two. Not even track day I just put mine on with visor down nearly lost my nose. I find them really useful for road. But I would think an off on track with the visor down would result in the loss of half your head never mind the old schemozzle Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
