Afternoon,

Coming home late last week on an unlit country road, it suddenly goes dark. It took me a moment to work out what had happened and then i quickly slowed to a stop.

Put hazard lights on and drove the 1/2 mile home.

The 10 amp fuse had melted and then failed.

Changed it and we are back in business but what obvious things would I check to identify what caused this ?

All bubs are good, and all lights work.

Thanks

What everyone would do would be to wiggle everything around a bit and then carry a couple fuses around with them for a while.

The circuit has momentarily pulled more than 10amps through the circuit so there's either a short or something happened to the bulb. I know you said the bulb is fine but sometimes the filament burns through and then welds itself back together and works for a bit. Are there any signs on the bulb of over heating? Other than that have a good look at the loom for that circuit. Other than that the fuse could have failed I guess.

I would be checking for chaffing on the wiring loom, particularly around the headstock.

It's not uncommon for a failing bulb to pull more current than normal, and to blow the fuse. But if you only replaced the fuse, and not the bulb too, then it would suggest that some wires may have shorted.

You don't have one of those s***e HID or LED aftermarket bulbs do you?
