From a locked garage in deepest, darkest Stowmarket. Suzuki DR400y and Yamaha WR450f. Bikes were chained together. The garage was at the end of the drive by the house. Nobody has been to visit (apart from the thieves). Interestingly both bikes are advertised for sale but just with phone numbers. Pictures were taken on road away from house. Police and insurers informed.

Very sorry to hear that, OP.

Chains cropped? What was the entry method? (I ask as I am very hot on my security)

something has to be done

having mine nicked earlier this year - I'm now getting insurances quotes for over 7k for a new bike, OR nobody will touch it.

I hope you get a result OP.

I LOVE SYDNEY

and Melbourne (sorry, I know you guys are big rivals!)

It's disgusting in London - the mayor doesn't help as he basically hates cars and bikes and won't do anything about it.

I genuinely think it's time to leave for me. Which is going to upset the future ex biggrin

I can't not have my cars and bikes !

Bikes still get stolen in Sydney and Melbourne, just not in broad daylight parked on the street with everyone walking by like in London.

They get stolen, but Australian crooks seem to like dirt/offroad bikes (as someone else said above). If you have anything other than a dirt bike, it is reasonably safe to leave it parked without security. I regularly see nice bikes parked in the Sydney 'burbs on the street overnight with no chains or disc locks. Some parked his shiny red new BMW S1000 in town when I went in today, no locks at all. That would have been gone faster than I could get a $1 cappuccino for the 7-Eleven if it was London instead of Sydney.

I used to live in Oz, and still own a sports bike there - well it was still in my car park when I was last there 18 months ago! I never bothered with chains or disc locks, but was wary were I left my overnight as parts of inner Melbourne bikes would vanish overnight. According to article, 25% of thefts for Australia are in Victoria, while NSW rates has pretty good considering it has the largest population (NSW 7.7m, VIC 6m, QLD 4.8, WA 2.6m), but WA is the worst bikes stolen per resident.

I had a friend that had 2 Sports bikes stolen off the street from him, that was 20 years ago and they were targeted then, and Harleys were targeted by Bikie gangs for parts and in their eye's an ordinary guy had no right to ride a Harley.

It's a bit like living in semi-rural areas of Lancashire; scrotes go MENTAL for dirt bikes, and will commit insane burglaries to get them - basically on a par with that Hatton Garden jewellery heist.

What is it with dirt bikes? Most can't be ridden on the road anyway....

Ummmm I think the point is that they can be used in a field where they attract less attention and can get away from the police with ease

Slight update. After some amateur sleuthing, discovered that 3 other bikes in local area have been stolen and they have all been advertised on Gumtree. Had a chat with the PC and he told me that several other bikes were advertised on Gumtree before being stolen. Not sure what we can do with this information but....be warned.

Took me thirty seconds to figure out where you lived.

Found your advert based on your name, and town location through google on gumtree.

You list your first name, and the road you live on Gumtree. A 192 search gives your house number. Google streetview does the next part. And a-hole criminal's do the rest.

If you are selling, don't list your address or location on gumtree.

That’s both very scary and impressive.
