X light 803 ultra carbon
Discussion
Seeing as though the weather is s
t I have decided to erect my other hobby that's mainly known as wasting money and buying things I don't need
I have had a good poke around the 803 ultra carbon and all looks good, the shop only had a medium, I need to try a small on before I commit but that will arrive in there hands back end of next week..
If I buy it I will go for the wsb colour scheme which puts it a tad over 500 squid and me being financially challenged would like to hear if any one on hear has a good reason for me to not waste any money and stick with my perfectly good shoei gt air .

cheers for the heads up, I reckon that colour scheme might be new because helmet city are up there at £519 , Had a quick poke around ebay and to be honest it looks like 500 flat is a good deal from the shop I went to today, Have a look out for this helmet in 12 months because as with everything I buy it will be half price by then

After several Arai RX7, the latest version of which they have changed the fit and I couldn't get it over my head, I tried the Xlite and liked it immediately.
I find it more comfortable than the Arai and of course it's much lighter (unless you buy the carbon Arai). It seems as well made, visor swap is easy and the vents are comparable whilst making a little less wind noise at speed (still a noisy helmet though).
Only downsides that I have found are; has a greater tendency for fogging when you stop - I think due to the better (removable) chin seal?, it is more difficult to get glasses inside it due to the sides being tighter inside the visor and the chin-bar is thicker/higher meaning that on my Monster I need to dip my head to see the speedo/mirrors whereas with the Arai I could just glance down - that said the top opening of the visor is higher so I don't need to lift my head/neck quite so much to get forward vision when riding the 916.
Best of all it cost almost £200 less than the (non carbon) Arai I was looking at and close to £2.5k less than a carbon Arai.
I'd recommend it.

I did glean some information today that the only true 100 percent carbon helmet on the market is the £2700 Aria, the rest are just carbon mix which I didn't no, If tonight's lottery comes in I may have to give it a try
I'd recommend it.
. I also tried on the bell race star carbon that is now reduced to around the 600 squid mark but it hurt around my temple area with a lack of padding, shame because its a cracking looking helmet ,

Yeh, I normally buy a year old colour for £300 ish.
Not got one, but I was 50/50 on getting on when I went for a GT Air, looked a cracking bit of kit. Thought I was just attracted to the shiny carbon loveliness and Shoei was the sensible choice so went with that. Would be good to get your thoughts if you do go for it, not really sure I made the right choice. GT Air feels a bit overrated imho.
I’ve got 2 xlite 802rr’s (I got on special offer) and I made the mistake of trying on the 803rr at the shop the other day and it fixes the only problem I have with the 802rr which is the chin bar is too close.
I’ll have to wait for the special offers for the price to come down.
Helmet city have a special offer on the newance red and green irrc at £329 but I’m gonna wait.

Glad to hear the 803 has a bit more chin roomI’ll have to wait for the special offers for the price to come down.

I’ve not got one but have looked at a few of them. It’s a really nice lid, only real complaint I have is that the vents feel a bit cheap. They work fine, just don’t feel that great. Fit and finish elsewhere is spot on and it’s priced really well.
I’d say the X spirit 3 is a step up in terms of quality but obviously is a good chunk of money more. Every person I know with an X Spirit has said it’s the best helmet they’ve had and I think the same about mine.

I have Shoei GTAir
I also have XLite 802RR Ultra Carbon (MotoGP themed)
I also have XLite 802RR Blue Carlos Checa replica (I like the really amazing detailed design and it matches somewhat my blue GSXRR
).
Compared to X802RR the GTAir is very heavy. Blue 802RR is very light and Ultra Carbon is even lighter.
I used Ultra Carbon 802RR in 37C heat on a track, it ventilates really well.
On the street I found X802RR fogs up faster and more often than GT Air.
In terms of noise - cannot tell, I listen to music when I ride.

The vents may look cheap but they work very well. Easily the coolest breeziest helmet I've owned. I’d say the X spirit 3 is a step up in terms of quality but obviously is a good chunk of money more. If I didn't crash so much, I'd try an XSpirit 3 but I do, so I haven't

Snap. I bought one on the recommendation of toxicnerve (after trying it on of course). 25k later and I'm still very happy with it.Like someone above, I tried the Bell racestar and got a massive headache within minutes. Definitely not shaped for my head!
Tempted to try on a shoei x spirit now its been mentioned, its a mine field of prices, if your not bothered about colour scheme the cheapest x spirit is £429 and the cheapest 803 ultra is £329 both from different shops.
The shoei tops out at £700 for new colours and the 803 at £520 so there's a cross over point where the 803 is more expensive and visa versa.
Some good info on both helmets so thanks for the postings chaps .

Its arrived ! The thing looks stunning in the flesh. Be warned though, this model is there most expensive and unbeknown to me doesn't come with a free dark visor like all the cheaper 803 helmets
.
Even the shop didn't realise , not only is it there most expensive colour scheme you have to add on the price of a dark visor if needed

That's me skint then .
