I know that a number of people on here have previously expressed an interest in joining the Old Gits on one of our trips. Well, the destination for the Old Gits 2019 trip has now been decided. We’re off for a week in the Dolomites. biggrin

The plan is to leave the UK on either Friday 31st May or Saturday 1st June (as suits each on the trip) and travel to the Villa Blu Hotel in Cortina d'Ampezzo, arriving on the evening of Sunday 2nd June. We’ll then stay at the hotel until the morning of Saturday 8th June when we’ll make the run back to the UK over 2 days.

Hotel details

Location details

The deal we have with the hotel gives us 25 double rooms for single occupancy, B&B with use of their car park, for 6 nights for £495.41 each. Pretty decent for a 4 star hotel I think! wink

Basing the group in Cortina d'Ampezzo gives easy access to a large number of superb roads, as well as all the other attractions the Dolomites have to offer.

I know a number on this site have been on previous Old Gits trips but for those that are unaware, they work as follows: I book the hotel(s) for the group for the week. I can also book channel crossings and/or intermediate stop over hotels should you wish me to. Getting there, getting back, riding while there etc. is all up to you. You do what you want on your holiday. (I’ll be doing what I want on my holiday!). There are no formally organised ride outs, routes or tour groups. Informal groups tend to form during the week as people decide to go on the same route at the same time but doing your own thing on your own is also totally acceptable. The idea is simply to put a group of people with a common interest into a great location and leave them to decide how things develop.

Any costs you pay are exactly your share of the overall costs. While I do the organisation and the booking, I don’t take anything for that. There is no profit taken but that also means there is no guarantees either.

If you’re new to Euro touring then it’s a great way to get some experience of what is possibly the best thing you can do on your bike. If you’re an old hand at touring then it gives you the opportunity to share a week with a great group of like-minded bikers.

We currently have allocated 19 of the 25 rooms booked, leaving 6 further spaces available. If you are interested in taking one of those spaces then please PM me directly. The rooms will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Booking a place on the trip will require a £148.62, non-refundable, deposit. This will go towards your costs for the stay at the Villa Blu Hotel. Details of how to pay will be given when you book your place.

If you want to know more about the Old Gits or would like to see some details of previous trips, then check out the web site at www.old-gits.org

Sounds like a great trip, wish I could go. Cortina one of my favorite places to ride and drive to - Passo di Giau was personal favorite in and out of Cortina. The Dolomites are ridiculously pretty; for anyone that has not been before its definitely a must-do.

That is not a good thing to have. Sorry to hear it. You'd have been very welcome on the trip.

I've not been before and I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for the recommendation. If your situation changes and you find you are able to make the trip then please let me know.

The dolomites are simply stunning, there's some incredible roads in that area - we stayed at Camping Sass Dlacia last year, a few miles to the west.

That was taken just here - https://goo.gl/maps/zHnxGmUfJ1K2

Make sure you do Passo di Giau https://goo.gl/maps/P2DsbmDKC6B2 it's one of the best in the area.

That looks amazing! I was already stupidly excited about this trip but I just lost 10 minutes on Google going from corner to corner, from view to view. Spectacular.

If you have an afternoon off the bikes it's worth doing the Marmolada cable cars to the top, 3 separate gondolas, it costs about 30euro but takes you to the top of the highest mountain in the dolomites, just under 11,000ft.

And unless someone sneaks in beforehand, suspect I'll be asking for those 4 tomorrow! Complete newbies to your group but reading the previous trip reports, I think our collective profile is a fit smile

No PM received yet but you'd be very welcome to claim one or more of the remaining places. If you need more than 3 there is a possibility I can get one or two more rooms from the hotel at the same rate.

Looks like an awesome trip, maybe next year!

Out of interest do you have anyone ship their bike down there, or bung a couple in a van and drive? 1000 miles is a fair ways to get down to the dollies, I remember going skiing on a school trip and it was a 26-hour coach trip with drivers rotating.
