I have to say I like it a lot and I'm not a fan of the boxer engines. It looks smart, has more than enough power for me at 136bhp though wet weight is 243kg. And a 3 year warranty as standard. Starts at £12,100 - so probably £14-15 for ESA and all the luggage etc that you actually want. Hmm.

Taking the basis of the bike as being the same as the current RS, then, yes a very capable bike. Sports tourer, I’m not sure of the nomenclature, but a bloody great bike.
I wrote a bit about the new 1250 GS, which considering the motor is common might give you a clue or two.
For me, I’m inclined to think of the emporer’s new clothes.
Try the current model and if you think you need a TFT instrument pack, a couple more kg and symmetrical headlamps, do buy the 1250.

Thanks sjwb - interesting read.

I've never ridden a boxer and all my prejudices about them stem from the bad old days of the R80RT tractors and the image issues that they had. I probably ought to give them a go at some point but the GS that I sat on (a pre-LC version) felt so unnecessarily big that I discounted it straight away.

The new RS is the first BMW for sometime that I've been genuinely interested in. I love the look of the R nineT Racer but couldn't deal with the riding position - other than that the weird headlights and the odd design quirks on other bikes have always put me off. Plus the reliability issues that seem to be pretty well documented.

Looks like I need to get myself down to a dealership and take a look at some point.
