Don't know about you guys but I was chuffed when BP released their app which means I could pull onto the forecourt, fuel and then leave without getting off my bike. Turns out they have now pulled the app for motorcyclists only as phones are not allowed on the forecourt. Cars can continue to use the app.

So annoying that they released this and then back tracked, is it actually unsafe? Surely they should of thought of this when developing it.

Another guy I know messaged them and they have stated car drivers can continue to use the app as they are inside their car.

I find it laughable that this is still peddled, I've not heard of one incident of a forecourt fire being caused by a mobile and yet the use of them is banned and yet you can drive a car onto a forecourt, with all the sparks and combustion going on within it, turn it off and start it again with yet more sparks and combustion going on and that is fine!

Everyone knows that a phone on a forecourt immediately develops a bright, glowing orb with lightning crackling off it like the time dilation field at the start of Terminator.

Mythbusters did an episode on this and couldn't get the phone to cause an explosion.

It's not about causing fires but getting you to concentrate on the task at hand.

Like paying for the fuel you've finished pumping using an app? Perhaps they should ban cash and cards too, can't have people who have just filled up distracted by handheld items.

What like authorizing your pump to start fueling like you would in car?

The reason they are banned are because they used to be concerned that the phone being dropped and the battery dislodging could cause a spark.

Question; How does the app know you are on a Motorbike when trying to fill up?

I think the final step of the pump unlock still requires a visual check from the team in store

Does BP have pay at pump? I can get my credit card out and use pay at pump without even having to take my gloves off. Don't see what advantage a phone app holds?

In my experience, they wont authorise the pump until you're off the bike anyway.

Never had that. I fill up the Africa Twin twice a day at the same stations normally.

Twice a day?! Surely the Africa Twin has aux fuel tanks available for it?

They are soooo expensive (£430 for 6 litre aux tank). I fuel up at a Shell in Bristol in the morning and then BP in London in the evening. If I did 70 the whole way there and back I might get 240 miles out of a tank. But I don't have time for that.
