After my bmw failing me repeatedly and in a costly fashion, its going, and i'm interested in something else

for the first time ever, i'm looking at buying something new. i've only bought second hand cars and bikes before, so i have no experience of buying new.

I quite fancy a tracer 700, so does anyone have any tips on how to go about this, or a better suggestion for the price? its mainly going to be a commuter with the odd weekend ride in the nicer months, and used all year.

is negotiating still a thing, or if its PCP is it just sign on the dotted line and leave your soul there?

is it worth getting things like heated grips, and centre stand, or just get them fitted after?

thanks!

You can still negotiate on a PCP wink

Just check the mileage if you go down the PCP route.

There will not be a lot of wiggle room in the price, but there will be wiggle room with the extra and after-care service etc. from the dealer/network.

Still try to get the price down.

The OE heated grips are rubbish, so don't bother with them, if you are pcp'ing don't fit anything you can't remove at the end of the term.

Glad I didn't get any then!

Stopped buying new years ago, like cars there are lots of low mileage bikes swapped in by people with lots of money.

I got my last bmw adventure, 18 months old 5k miles, cost 10k

Finance rates are usually better on new stuff though. If you need to finance of course.

New appealed so I could get it how I want it, second hand could work, depends on what the finace/pcp situation is.

I don't have the funds for an outright buy at the moment

3 years warrenty also appeals as a nice blanket after the mess of the bmw

Bank loan and pre reg bike?

Assuming a decent credit rating etc can be as low as 3%

Suzuki themselves are offering 3%... from the right dealer you could get an ex-demo/pre-reg on it too.

Yamaha are doing 6.4% PCP. Some bikes 0% HP.

Kawasaki are doing 0% HP too I think.

There are still a few 0% deals out there for the Tracer and you can still haggle on price a wee bit.

yeah, that website does seem a little poor, i got to the pages by going to the home page, but clicking back to change the search dosent work either!

I keep thinking about a tracer 900, but i'm trying to convince myself i dont need a 110bhp wheelie machine in winter when i dont to / cant wheelie!!

I had the closely related XSR700 for a bit... after being off bikes for a few years.

It was alright. Just not particularly fun... well, I suppose it depends on your definition of fun. If you like the uncertainty of not stopping for a corner and bouncing your way round it then great. If not then I'd suggest something with more refined suspension and beefier brakes. Or ride slower I guess. smile

Other suggestions??

similar price and idea, i'd prefer to keep the upright riding position, price is a bit flexible, but am happy to be guided into a different choice
