Hi folks

My wife owns a Suzuki GSXS 1000F, but it doesn't have heated grips because she's pretty much a fairweather rider and rarely uses it in the winter.

But last week she had to use her bike every day and one morning she couldn't start it. So she nicked my bike, which she has always hated by the way, but in the process discovered the blessing that is "heated grips".

Now she wants heated grips fitted to her bike - so this could be an ideal Christmas present opportunity.

I see that Suzuki do official heated grips for this bike at around £200 but there also seemed to be plenty of non-official aftermarket options from around £50. I've never fitted heated grips as an aftermarket extra so would welcome any advice on what to buy and how easy they are to fit.

Cheers

They're pretty straight-forward to fit, but I would be tempted to see how tricky the OEM ones are - the Oxford and similar ones always look a bit st imho.

If she gets really cold hands perhaps Gerbing heated gloves are a better idea? Lots of BB'ers have and rave about them. smile

I've had Oxford heated grips for years and they are excellent. Never had any problems and you can get them for under £50 at Sportsbikeshop or elsewhere online.

Never fitted them myself though.

I fitted Oxford grips to my bike this weekend, it's pretty straight forward and they don't look badly out of place once the wiring is properly routed. I was thinking about the Honda ones, so they integrate with the dashboard display, but I just couldn't justify the £180 price hike over the Oxfords.

I was thinking about gloves too, but I wanted bigger grips anyway and my wife made the point that I might go out with normal gloves because the weather is nice, then find myself somewhere where the temperature has dropped. With grips I can just flick them on, whereas my heated gloves would still be at home!

I’ve had Oxford heated grips on my GSX650F since i bought it and they are amazing.

The hottest level is too hot for me, even through gloves. They look neat and tidy too.

Thanks guys

There seem to be lots of different Oxford heated grips.

Any particular model to go for?

I've fitted the 'Touring' Oxford grips on my last 3 bikes, really good - you wont go wrong with those.

I was of the understanding that the touring/adventure/whatever denotes the length of the grip.

You can trim a little off the ends, but it always looks st. Best check the sizes to get the correct size.
