Hi all,
I was thinking about an intelligent battery maintainer, are there any good ones around for about £30? The optimates look a bit pricey. I've seen an Oxfor one, any good?

I've had an Optimate for 15 years and it still works as good as the day it was new. I would certainly buy another without question.

I have the £30 Oxford 9000 jobby.

No complaints here; plug it in and forget about it until you next use the bike.

I too have the oxford one. Been on my seldomly used track bike. It’s been on there for 18 months now and still working fine.

I have a ctek mx5(or something like that) too but haven’t used it yet so can’t comment on any difference.

I have had a ctek xs 0.8 for 3 years with no problems, includes tender cables to leave connected to the battery.

Ive had a lot experience with trickle chargers, ive used a few though I havent tried Ctek. I recommend Ring and Optimate. I echo the earlier statement on Oxford about cheap and nasty.

Trust me on this, there are reasons why they are more expensive. Things might have changed in the last 6 years but paying less cost me a battery...its all to do with fail safe recovery systems

I'll say no more.

and yet I have had all 3 brands at the same time in the last 20 years for 8 bikes and cars and the optimate always seems to fail and did cost me an expensive glass mat battery in the process. CTEK seems fine as does the Oxford £50 one ( currently have 3 of those).
Not sure the quality of optimate has maintained what it once was? I went to buy a new one after my OPT4 died again and the guy I spoke to said they had several complaints.

Exho what has been said about Oxford. I've had 2 batteries on 2 different bikes fail with the Oxford chargers. I use the Ctek ones now on everything and they have maintained the batteries at full capacity.

my optimates are quite old, they've probably changed in recent times...why are companies so blinkered?

Exactly what happened to me, destroyed the battery. An electric technician explained the parts they were missing that could have prevented it. Outsource to China, go for cheap, customers won't abandon you...

Ive had a good time with RING, anyone else used them.

Had optimate, oxford and Aldi own intelligent charger, all worked OK, although one oxford 9000 died after 3 years, Aldi one was £14 and works as well as the others, so purchased another as a spare last time they were on sale.

I bought one from Halfords, don't laugh, a few months ago after my Accumate charger went kaput. It is specifically for bikes and cars, 6 and 12 volt batteries up to 70 amps.

It is attached to my SL and so far has kept the 70 amp consumables battery fully charged with no issues.. Car started first time this morning after 6 weeks standing in the garage.

It is branded Halfords and cost the grand sum of £25, a bargain if I may say so.

Ive played with the ring a couple of times , she denied she was having a good time but I think she was...

As for my old Oxford charger, never had any problems with that or my batteries but I dont leave my battery's on charge for long periods of time, over the Winter months I bring them into the warmth of the house and charge them for a half a day once a month or so.

Only had Optimate's until I recently bought a CTEK so now have both. I bought on the good recommendation of the CTEK.

I have used them for 15 years on my kit car and Bikes

Spend a little more and they should last years
