Hi all,

Putting this here instead of 'what car' as I need advice specifically from other bikers with experience.

Would like to get a vehicle to move my CRM 250 and occasionally Triumph Bonneville (driving to Europe to ride etc.). Haven't found a 'large car' that seems to fit my CRM, but am sure something is out there. Would ideally like the option to have more than 2 seats (can remove/store).

Additional challenge is that I live in Islington, part of the soon-to-be ULEZ zone, so preferably no diesel (£12.50 a DAY charge otherwise). Petrol would need to be Euro 4 onwards for £0 charge.

Keen for a 'car' version as insurance is much cheaper than van equivalent for me (used transporter kombi v. caravelle to get a guide).

What I really need is a 2006 onwards petrol swb van-derived car that fits my CRM. Transit connect etc. don't fit comfortably - have tried.

Budget circa £5k. Wiggle room either way for the right thing.

CRM measurements for reference: H 1450mm L 2250mm

Must be something out there! Any ideas?

Galaxy, Sharran, Alhambra? But at that price may have to be a V6 petrol Galaxy, quite rare?

They're a bit tight but you can get such machines in there.

I did view a Honda Stepwagon but it wasn't high enough (or long enough from what I remember). CRM is quite a tall bike.

I'd imagine Sharan/Galaxy are similar with the floor height being too high...will do some research on them.

Transit connect.

None of the car derived stuff will fit the enduro bike. They are not tall enough, not by a long way.

Other option for the enduro bike is a Dave Cooper carrier.

You can fit an MX / Enduro bike on a tow bar with a if you have a decent sized car. Not the Triumph though.

Transit Connect I was led to believe would be very tight? Happy to be told otherwise, assume I should be looking at LWB Hi-Roof versions?

Bike Carrier is my last resort as it would be good to have the option to take 2 enduro bikes when travelling with mates. And, as said above, Triumph is a no-go there.

Thanks for replies so far guys

No you can't, without opening a massive can of worms you will be carrying it illegally.

May/could exceed the nose weight on some cars - if it does not... It will definitely exceed the tow bar vertical nose load limit.

My KTM 300EXC TPI with dave cooper bike carrier exceeds all known brands. They are mostly designed for trial bikes which are light.

A bloke at work takes his ktm supermoto's to trackdays in a Renault grand espace mpv, he takes out the front wheel and slots a mini moto wheel in its place and the bike fits in with all the extra gear he takes.
Iv had a few 125s in the back of my old seat alhambra, with plenty of room to spare. Would think at the very least high mirrors etc would need to be removed for anything larger.

I got a 450 honda endure bike in a touran by fitting a 5 inch wheel from screwfix in the front!

The endures will go in an Alhambra / sharran using etiher a smaller fronjt wheel or by ratchet strapping the front end down and pulling the bars right back. Stock, and endure bike is about 1.2 to 1.25m at the bars, but you can get that down to less than a meter with straps and loosening the bars/ .

Vauxhall Combo. We had a 14 plate LWB one with crew seats. That would swallow a couple of bikes easily

I used to have a LWB Connect and could fit my Aprilia RSV R in it but you do have to fold the front seat down so it kills the chance of taking a passenger.

Fiat Scudo/Peugeot Expert, 130hp model sounds smallest suitable. Transit Custom probably more ideal but maybe not in budget.

Having a Caddy & just fitting a Trials Bike in it, I doubt if any car derived van will be big enough for the Bonnie.

Check out Van Insurance costs, the price of the Caddy surprised me - only problem with non-car derived van is the lower speed limits.
