Good afternoon Guys and Girls,

I've got a 2008 ZZR1400 and have recently purchased a USB phone charger for it, I am looking at placing it alongside one of the inside screen mount screws or the side of the yoke. But am querying the best route for the wiring to the battery.
Annoyingly the battery is right behind the engine, behind the right and side fairing panel, rather than under the seat (so the wiring would have to go past the engine I'm guessing). And the ZZR's are notorious for getting blisteringly hot, so am worried about melting the wires.

Any one got a ZZR and wired a USB charger to it? (I am not electrically inclined at all so have no idea how or confidence to wire it into existing wiring)

Would be one like this:

Thanks

Not the same bike, but I used self adhesive velcro and just routed it under/around the edge of the tank, out of sight.

I have a 2014 ZZR1400 with a USB charger fitted, you shouldn't have any problems with heat running a cable out of there. You could probably even come up out of the battery box directly into the fairing. I've run mine slightly differently because my charger is connected under the seat to a relay so it's switched, running out the back of the battery box, under the seat, then back up under the tank.

I'd be wary putting a USB socket in that position tbh, if you do then make sure it has a cover.

The one in the picture isn't the exact one im getting, made sure to get a waterproof one that comes with a cover too.
Was more for location than anything.

She needs a new battery installing this weekend as she's dead at the moment, so will have a look at wiring in the charger at the same time and see about routing it similar to how you said, straight out of the battery box.

It would be better connecting it in to a switched feed i.e ignition etc. I had one connected direct to the battery on my ZRX and if you don't ride for a while it can draw enough to flatten the battery.
Maybe that way as well you wouldn't have to route it from the battery.
