Not the best time of year for them but i'm treating myself to one very soon ready for the new year and bike season.
Can't decide between (used bikes not new) MV Agusta Brutale 1090, Aprilia Tuono V4 1000, Suzuki GSXS 1000 and BMW S1000R. Maybe a KTM 1290 Super Duke (1301cc).
They've all got loadsa power (Suzuki lowest but still 146 bhp) and it's a tough choice. What would be the top 2 for you if you were buying? BMW is an absolute rocket and revs for England but the MV looks so horny and has a huge engine which sounds amazing. KTM is totally bonkers and the Aprilia ticks nearly every box a biker could wish for. Suzuki seems the most sensible but still great looking and fast enough.

I've been toying with a 2nd bike for the road and after owning a KTM950SM some years ago I keep looking at the Katoom as I know it will be bonkers and bulletproof.

Second choice would be the Aprilia, just for the V4 howl, but parts and reliability are the concern, which could be unfounded.

1290 all day long, although I haven’t ridden the tuono or mt10.

The 1290 is a proper hooligan bike yet it’s still very easy to ride. Definite this up from me.

I borrowed a Super Duke 1290r and didn't want to give it back. I rode it from morning until night, only stopping for fuel and eventually a hotel. No aches, no fatigue, then repeated the same thing the next day. I also made several commuter-type rides in the days after and it is such a nice thing to be on when filtering. The cruise control helps avoid speed creep on boring motorway sections. It isn't quite as precise as my Street Triple RS (I'm told not many things are) but so much character. Like one of the guys in the shop said: it's a tame tiger. You know it could rip your face off.

Tuono V4 or SD1290.

The MT10 is just bloody ugly.

That it is, I can't think of any pretty naked bikes. Brutale in one of the less silly paint schemes?

I think the Speed RS is the best looking bike, such a nice finish to it. I'd not have one though, it's better than the older ones but i'd still pick a Street RS over it.

I test rode most of them that were around a few years ago and ended up with the Brutale. Anything with 160bhp with a short wheelbase & gearing is going to be lively smile

I just liked the look of the MV more, and so far, 9k miles later its been faultless ...touch wood....

Technically the SD1290 or the Tuono have a bit more poke and latest electronic gizmos. At the time the SD1290 was new out and seemed expensive for the level of finish (stickers on plastic on the one I tested)

The Tuono is not really a naked bike, it has more plastic that some sportsbikes. Its like a sportsbike with some slightly more upright bars wink ...this can be a good thing if thats what you are looking for. Personally I prefer a "naked" bike to be without a fairing etc. Also the Tuono riding position is still quite sporty whereas a SD1290 or Brutale are very upright with more legroom. For me comfort is key part of riding a naked rather than a sportsbike.

The big MV is great VFM used buy, but they are very rare overall compared to the others so you may have to wait for the "right one" in the colour scheme you fancy.

I was after a super naked for months. I initially convinced myself it was to be a V4 Tuono 1100, but was put of by the talk of poorly engines. I then very nearly bought an MT10, the MPG or range was not a factor as I don't commute, but I just could not look at the ass end and like it sadly, I'm sure it's a hooligan of a bike.

I was a bit lost at that point, and then found a '15 S1000R that had been PX'd at a Yamaha dealer, at a very good price, fully specced including the BMW optional nav. It has cruise, heated grips, ABS, TC, qucikshifter, wheelie control, 3 modes, electronic suspension, heated grips, akra pipe...I came from a 2005 R1, and absolutely love my S1000R. Range not great on a tank though, not that it bothers me.

Not sure what your budget is and it's a "mere" 111hp but the Kwacker Z900RS is getting rave reviews and looks fabulous. Currently selling for £9399.

I mention it as someone posted about trading their S1000R for one and having no regrets.

Not having 15-16k for a new bike, the KTM and Aprillia was out for me, so I didnt ride them.

The 3 above was the choice I narrowed it down to...I was intent on buying an MT10 but I took the time to test ride all 3 bikes from that list and concluded the BMW was the bike I liked most, which surprised me as well!

The BMW salesman needed to hit his 6 monthly target I think and did a new bike, with alarm, free first service , fitment of some aftermarket parts for £11,500 all in...he also markedly undercut the Yam finance PCP package. Liked it the most AND it was good value.

It was cheaper to buy the new BMW than a pre registered, year old base spec Speed Triple...I do agree however the Speed is the best looker of the bunch , no question.

My suggestion would be to ride the bikes you like the most /within your budget and make your own mind up.

It doesnt get much of a mention but I would also add the GSX - F is a great bike and does the road part of the riding if not quite the fun part as equally as well as the others for the majority of the time.

My friend has a 2016 model(has GSXR headers on it and re-mapped) , now making 152 RWHP, the engine may be from an old sportsbike but it still has plenty of poke everywhere.

We swapped bikes some weeks ago and while Im not overly keen on the looks of the Suzuki the large fairing(and screen my friend has fitted) work brilliantly, the seat is lower, so you really feel you sit "in" the bike and are well protected from the elements,

Its more stable at speed than my S1 ,a touch more legroom as well , along with slightly higher bars, id say over distance, it could well be a more comfortable bike for most.

Brakes are not as sharp and its a lot softer handling wise, it would wallow on occasion on big fast sweepers but his bike has done a fair few miles.

With the Suzuki on currently on a 3% finance deal and for 10k ish, you could possibly get a new bike..OK , it doesnt have all the gadgets and latest tech but if you dont need that stuff its worth considering...

My brother had the gsxs1000 and I rode it round cartagena when my gsxr 750 reg started playing up

For the money they are good bikes. Very good engine and not low on the power front. Just a bit cheap in places that's all I found
