Heated grips problem
Discussion
Hi all. Seasons greetings.
I've discovered that my Oxford heated grips do not turn off when I turn the bike off. Equally, they can be turned on whilst the bike is parked up. So some numpty could walk past, turn them up to full blast, and I could return to a flat battery. Anybody know why and what the fix is? Honda cbf600 09, grips are v8.
Many thanks

Only if your engine is something piddling little or low compression.Something like a big twin will not start if you leave them on overnight and the voltage drops to the "battery saving" switch off point.
Best solution, as has already been said, is a relay operating from a switched live such as the taillight or rear brake switch circuit.
Thanks chaps. I'll look into that solution.
Weirdly, I was at a petrol station the other day. Filled up. Went to pay etc. Came back and saw I'd left the heated grips on. Turned them off. Then turned the key in the ignition and nothing happened. Wtf... Tried several times. Nothing. Pushed the bike off to the side, took the seat off, and had a prod at the red battery cable connector thing, and then it all worked ok. I assume a very odd coincidence as this has never happened before. Perhaps the battery cable thing was loose. What happens if that comes out whilst I'm riding, does everything die?

The battery saving mode is triggered 2 minutes after turning the engine off, as the controller detects the voltage fluctuations when the engine is running. I have them on the Africa twin, and if I don't turn them off, the grips are cooling down by the time I come out of the shop (having bought my lunch on the way to work), and they warm up again as soon as the engine is running.Something like a big twin will not start if you leave them on overnight and the voltage drops to the "battery saving" switch off point.

Well, that's certainly an improvement on the original design! The first "battery saver" ones monitored the battery voltage and only switched off when it dropped below a certain level.
You could go away, have a few pints and come back to warm grips straight away if your battery was strong enough...
