Anybody made this switch? I went to a naked as they’re a do all bike.

I’m a big guy and look a bit silly and cramped on a sports bike. But I read that the s1k are much more suited to the taller gentleman?

I like my bikes new and the price looks to be the thing that’ll stop me buying the bmw. I’m paying £160 for my Yamaha and I’ve had prices of £270 for the bmw. I can afford it but it’s not a figure I’m willing to pay for something that lives in a garage for 5 months of the year.

Are there any good deals to be had?

I'm 6'1"

I had quite some problem with the size of bikes. My old R1 was okay but a bit cramped. GSXRs were okay. Ducati were comical. Honestly no idea how anyone of an average male height fits on one of those.

Have tried the latest S1000RR and noticed they seem o be getting smaller and more uncomfortable with each newer iteration. Bit like wagonwheels.

Good luck and let me know if you find anything for a normal sized European..

Being objective, and I know as a man thats not easy, especially when considering bike purchases but the first question I'd ask myself if I were you is:

What exactly other than a shiny new bike am I getting for the £110 ???

New S1000RR out next year starts at around £16k up to £19k for the full fat 'M' version, you need to sit on one and see how cramped you think it is. I sat on the new bike at the NEC and thought it was great, but I am a midget smile

As a previous poster said...I’m also 6ft 1. I’m all cramped up on sports bikes which is why I went for a flat bars, foot pegs down naked. I looked ridiculous on previous bikes.

I’ve read that the s1000rr is much better suited to the taller rider so have been strongly considering it. I’m going to try and book a test ride in the new year after the weather breaks.

Try this OP, should give you an idea of what's practical: http://cycle-ergo.com/

They don't have an MT-10 on there at the moment, but an MT09 and a few other options of MT, I'm assuming they'll be very similar to within a few degrees.

What is "big guy" exactly?
I am 6.1, 210lb and I feel good on GSXR1000 L7.
L7 back-to-back ride with BMW S1000RR - BMW felt similar though I did not like the seat, I had the feeling it was inclined forward and I was slipping towards the tank.
I actually feel good on Daytona 675 as well, even though it is tiny and has, imho, even more aggressive sitting position than L7.

These ARE sportsbikes after all, not a naked with a corresponding high and wide bar.
If you are not into sportsbikes why force the square peg into a round hole?

I’m 6’1” and a couple of lbs under 14 stone and don’t find a Ducati particularly less comfortable than the Aprilia I had before it or the S1000RR I had before that, saying that, no sportsbikes are the most comfortable things out there but I’ve not found them too bad, the thing which is terrible about the Ducati is the unbearable heat it kicks out.

Even the V4S is kicking heat right up the tuchas?

I sat on it too and it felt great, you seem to sit in it more than the older model, plus the seat position and narrowness makes you grip the tank with your knees, can't wait to have a go. I'm 6ft.

So it is now like L7 GSXR1000. wink

If you can get away from the new thing, keep the MT10 and you'll find lots of value in the used sportsbike market to buy an occasional play thing. That's what I did. S1000R as a do it all, and a GSXR750 as a plaything.

I’m 6ft 1, 17st.

Moved the other way from a 2012 S1000RR to a MT10.

The BMW is comfy as far as sports bikes go, I did 2000 miles in a week on mine but definitely felt it for a few days after. The MT10 on a similar trip this year was much, much nicer.

The BMW engine is monsterous, it’s very easy to ride fast but ultimately you have to be doing silly speeds to enjoy it. The MT10 is more of a handful, I find it more exciting and usually have at least a few laugh out loud moments on the back wheel in 3rd. I’d say the Tuono factory fits somewhere in the middle between the two...really lovely bit of kit and where I’d be looking if I were to sell the Empty10 (she does like a drink!) I’d love a go on an MT10 with the full power engine from an R1 in it, I think that would be absolutely mental. idea

I have nothing to add, but I'm picking up an MT10 tomorrow. Hurrah! (It's the grey one with the silly yellow wheels)

I have no idea what the latest GXSR1000 generation code is but after I sat on the BMW I sat on a few more bikes, the Suzuki felt 'fat' between the legs, the nearest to the new S1000RR was the R1M as in fit.

I will test the new RR next season and express my objective opinion at that point. smile

Yes it’s really bad, forget wearing jeans on it it burns your legs if you’re filtering or going at town speeds, I can’t compare it to the v twin 1199/1299 models for kicking out heat but I’ve seen people who’ve had both say the V4 is worse, it certainly is far worse than the Aprilia, or the S1000 R.R. I had before that or the R1 before that, etc etc.....

Oh, that sucks. frown
I can't imagine how it can be worse than 1299, I thought that bike was a mad torture in city traffic wearing jeans.
Well, I guess V4's primary raison d'être is flying down a race track.
