8k, what to get?

I've 8k to spend on something interesting. Ideally something that won't loose ££££'s over 24 months.
I'm 99.999% going for an mv f4 312 1078rr.
What else could you get thats interesting for that sort of cash? What else could I look at?
As a side note, used bike prices are quite up now aren't they. I guess with new bikes costing £15-25k it lifts everything.

For £8k you could get a fantastic 1098S or possibly an 1198S.
A 312RR may be a stretch now at 8k.
Early S1000RR is possible at 8k.
Big mileage CB1000RR SP Fireblade could be found for 8k.
Perhaps an Aprilia RSV4 APRC 2011 could be had for 8k.

I find 996’s a little ‘lacking’. Not seen any decent 998’s for sale.... yet
I've got a nice 998s bip with 16k miles in original condition that had over £4k spent on it over the past 4 years and runs beautifully and would be willing to let it go for the just under thr budget you have in mind. I dont advertise it , but do pm me if you would like more details. That's my only issue with Ducati 748/916/996/998 etc. Beautiful and sexy as they are there is an inbuilt maintenance cost that must be kept up if you want top price and all your money hopefully back further down the line. This is regardless of how many miles you do.
Other choices around that ok maybe don't go up in value but are equally as good a but cost much less in servicing and downtime.

He doesn’t want to loose much money over 24 months though.
£8k is a difficult budget for that. I’d be looking around £4 to £5k. Mid 2000 superbikes. Don’t buy a dog and you’ll be fine with any of them.
I don’t like the 90’s style ohlins on the pre 2017 aprilias. £8k is a difficult budget for that. I’d be looking around £4 to £5k. Mid 2000 superbikes. Don’t buy a dog and you’ll be fine with any of them.
I don’t think there’s any interesting mid 2000’s stuff?
Don't look at the front of the bike lol. Hopefully they wont loose to much value, I had the same dilemma , I already have a modern bike loosing money so wonted another sports bike with a difference, I was going down the Honda sp2 vtr route but decided on something that would still hold its own with modern stuff.
You might need to push a little above 8k for a nice late r bike .

I bought a mint 2001 748R with 4k in 2012 for £~6k, which has I’ll admit cost me a fair bit in maintenance/servicing and now has 12k on the clock. All of that has been out of Geneva around the Jura, Alps, Provence and Italy.
More than enough sportsbike for the public roads, (Termi) sounds are like an Italian symphony and still the most beautiful bike ever built.
The keys will have to be pried out of my cold dead hands. When I am too old/arthritic to ride it, I’ll drain the fluids and hang it up as piece of art on my living room wall.
How « interesting » do you want a bike to be? :-)
