GSXR 1100 To buy or not to buy
Discussion
Hi all
Just testing the water and was wondering if the last of the oil cooled ‘M’ models are deemed to be desirable. I’m looking at a very clean Blue and White coloured one to add to my slowly growing collection!
I’m interested in the long term as both an investment and limited use in the summer months as I do with my other bikes.
Thoughts and values?

There's loads of bikes I'd like to add to my collection but I have got to the stage of asking myself "will I actually use it". The servicing, mot-ing, insuring gets a bit painful after a while.
I'd like a big old muscle bike but in reality it would require more grief to keep than I'd actually use it.

I’ve got a 750 K model. As far as values both 750’s and 1100’s seem to be going up. It’s probably worth another £1k over last year. I’m not really interested in the value of it but realistically it’ll at least recover the running costs when it comes to selling.
To ride I think it’s fun. Obviously it’s not as fast as a modern bike but I think it handles well enough and has more than enough power.
Parts availability is amazing for a 30 year old bike. Some parts are discontinued but a lot is still available new from Suzuki.

The changes weren't that major with the M and styling wise I'd prefer the L. I would think that the iconic one was the slabber, then the L as the first upside down fork version but after that I don't honestly know. Maybe do a search on sold 1100s on eBay to see what's fetching money..?
Buy one and you'll make bikey friends whetever you go...

Mine is the later water cooled 400 so no specific info. on 1100 models/prices. Like you I have a smallish collection and mine still gets used, often ahead of newer stuff. Insurance and running costs minimal, so even if it does not rocket in value it will likely cover its costs.

Mine’s usually the opposite! Park it in any bike related place and it usually ends up with a load of blokes stood looking at it. Sometimes it’s alright, others it can be a pain because I’ll want to leave but get stuck answering questions/hearing stories of “I had one of those”.Mine is the later water cooled 400 so no specific info. on 1100 models/prices. They are almost desirable as in they are the last of a long line, however, as with everything, they are only worth what someone is willing to pay.
If you are getting it for £50 and you have £50 burning a hole in your pocket it's a bargain. If the seller wants £10k and you would need to mortgage the kids to buy it, less so...
As a bike it is a dinosaur, eclipsed by just about everything more sporty than a skateboard these days, as a nostalgic journey back to your wasted youth it is absolutely spot on and the most hot-poop thing since the previous model.
Go in to it as a cynic and with your eyes wide open and you won't go far wrong.

They look nice enough, but the Exup was a much better bike back in the day.You could easily list loads of bikes objectively better than an exup too but it completely misses the point of why someone wants to buy one now.

That is very true...and whilst the EXUP is the "better" bike, nearly 30 years later, EXUPS (and the earlier FZR1000 ) are not worth anything like a GSXR1100 nowadays...

I didn't say it was an 89, though AFAIK aside from some decals the 89/90 were the same.
